Me and a friend raced my e46 against my e30. My e46 has a completely stock engine, my e30 has 8mm wires, msd coil, 2.5 exhaust no cat, chip, nothing major maybe 5 extra hp. I have removed the trunk tar, spare & jack, heavy exhaust and heat shields so overall it has lost about 100 lbs (guessing).

From first through the end of third (around 80mph) the e30 had pulled on me (I was driving the e46) by about half of its length. Off the line the e46 was slightly quicker but up at the top of second the e30 caught up and started pulling away. Oh and the e30 has 205000 miles on the stock engine. Anyway, yeah my e46 is pretty slow.

2.5 cars, which yours is, are for fuel economy/value. The 3.0 would smoke any m20 e30, and almost any e30 with a DOHC 6.

I remember driving an e46 325i five speed, then a 330i steptronic (auto) back to back and recalling how fucking slow the 325 was.

Oh yeah I know mine is slow, but it does get 30mpg. This engine can make around 300hp easily with boost or I could do a 3.0 swap, but I don't really care to make it fast.

              Leave it slow...

The 330 will get 30 mpg too. I averaged 35 mpg in the 2000 528i sport I had; that is a single 120 mile trip, at 75 mph.

I know that if I keep it for long that I won't be able to. I will eventually want to add some more power to it. I've already started modding it, I can't help myself. I dropped it on H&R sports last week and shaved the bumper reflectors this week. I plan to spray the bumper myself very soon, then i want clear tails, sidemarkers, foglights, blah blah it will continue.

lol, it was completely totalled when I bought it. It came from an insurance auction. I am slowly completing it. I have all the materials to paint the bumper, but time is what I need now. Check here

this e46 isnt blazin, but it knocks the e30 of its high horse.

and the drive home rocked, 100 miles of backcountry roads curvng thru michigan forests. and a inline 6 ripping the air apart.
