What pick up truck to buy?

My buddy is looking at buying a pick up in the $4-7k range.

    Must haves:
    extended cab
    camper
    5 speed
    4wd.

it'll mostly be used to go to bicycle races and some light duty transporting whenever need be. I know most people will say toyota tacoma,.. but they are sooooo expensive. I though maybe a newer Ford Ranger might fit the bill. He doesn't need anything too powerfull because it will mainly be for light duty.

Let me know what you think,
    Julien

For the camper, is it going to pull one or just have a camper top on the bed?

you should be able to find an older tacoma in that price range. great trucks, easy to work on and super reliable.

I like Dodge Dakota's. Cause of the room that's inside of them, for a smaller truck. And you can get a I4,V6,or V8 in them 91 and back TBI and the 92+ MPFI, i can't remember what the I4's had i think they was all TBI IIRC. Allthough good luck finding one with a V8 5spd 4x4. They are very hard to get. But one should be found with a 3.9V6 5spd, 4x4. I use to like S-10's, but after getting a Dakota i'm stiking with it.

My friend has that truck and its pretty good.

A tacoma or even toyota pickup (95 and down) are his best bet
Mazda b2200 and b2000 (92 and earlier) are cheap and pretty damn good trucks, although parts and kinda scarce and they are slow.

A ford ranger, any year/option/whatever is absolute crap. A mazda 93 and up is a ford ranger, so they suck after 92

Chevy S-10's are pretty damn reliable, although it might not all work as it should, the truck will still go where you need to go :P

All in all I don't have much faith in american build quality. There is a reason tacomas are soo expensive. They really are that much better

damn, i was about to throw out F250 superduty, or V8 TITAN. but then i got to the 4-7k price range. lol. i just like those 2 myself. ive got nothing for you. a decent V6 tacoma with 4wd and a manual trans is going to probably be out of his price range. but with that V6, dont be afraid of mileage. look up taco's and 4runners on ebay. you see the V6's going for $5k with over 200k on the motor.

This is what I am looking for. Something to throw parts in the back cheap to operate and insure. Plus able to pull a small pop up or utility trailer.

You might want to look into a Toyota T100, it was precurser to the Tundra.

I would have to say: Tacoma

if too pricy try: Nissan Frontier

I was in the same boat, looking for a truck.
Had my heart set on a tacoma, just couldnt find one in my price range.

So I found my self a Mint 98 frontier with 37k on it, 4x4, 5spd, extd. cab for $6700.00.

Put almost 20k since october, no problems since. No complaints since, love the truck!
