Do other people respect your car ?

Alright, so here is what I noticed yesterday. I have been driving my e30 more and more now that it's not raining and it's got enough maintance done to it etc.... The other day I parked the car at a grocery store, fairly empty lot. As I was leaving I saw an e34 5 series that parked right next to me, and figured NOICE... came back and found 2 new little door dings on the passenger side door, the e34 was still parked right next to my car and it's driver side door would smack my car right in the exact spot...

Do you notice that people don't really care about e30s or was this just a bad luck ?

I'd chalk it up to bad luck. Where I live, I could park a Bentley at the grocery store and some inconsiderate soccer mom would still either hit the car trying to park, or repeatedly open her door into the side of the car.

Honestly, I always park away from other cars. I work at an airport which means I park in the ramps. I always search out the most obscure places away from everyone else, and always near a camera so that I can keep tabs on it.

Yea I hear ya...

E34's are now at the price that a non-bmw/car person can own them. I rather park next to a new ford then a e34/e28/e36. But, I see a 2002, and I snug up next to it, "head to head"

As for people that give you door dents...We were parting out a car, we had it on the lift, and the lift vertical steal beams of the lift were in the way. Since we know the car (an e24) was going to the junker, we make a test of how voilently you have to slam a door open to make a ding. It's VERY hard. Not a cauual open - but a angry slam to open.

Very strange indeed. I also noticed that e30 doors are made of pretty thick stuff. As george noted, it would take quite a slam to put a dent in your door. My touring is 17 years old, with several dents here and there, but not a single door-ding on any of its four doors.

People Respek the work that I put into the car. Everytime I park in a parking lot, I always get someone saying, "nice car" or whatever.

Most people don't respek my car on the road however until I get on it and they know i'm not fooling around.

Its been my experience that when people are not taught better, some things don't even occur to them. It seems like every car that I have ever had, someone dinged the side of the car or came pretty close to it. One time I was sitting in my car at the library and this man and woman park in the space beside me. When the guy gets out on the passenger side, his door hits the side of my car. He didn't say "oops" or "excuse me" but hitting the side of the adjacent car was like NORMAL to him as if he didn't see anything wrong with it.

So I don't think that its an issue with the car itself as it is people not knowing (or caring) about destroying someone else's property.

i stopped off at the grocery store to pick up a few things, and on my way out to my car, i see this guy, kinda one of those 92 lb girlie tail-between-legs waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles types with a flower in one hand getting into the e60 next to me. I see him pop the door open, look at my car and just open his door right into my car. I saw the look on his face...it was the Its just an Old POS, absolutley no respect whatsoever...kinda pissed me off so i tailgated him out of the parking lot and down the street.....just to see on his plate frame "BMW of Beverly Hills"...of course. Fuckin' douchebags...seriously gtfo of my city and stop denting my doors..makes me wish I had pulled his ass out and beat his dinky ass to shit.

I dont think anyone thats not into old school bimmers really respects my car(s). People tend to wonder why you dont have the newer models because thats all they value. And therefore assume that you cant afford it. If they knew how much Ive dumped into the ///M3 alone..... plus the styling is soooo far away from whats being put out now. Boxy tends to denote old. Fuck em. Im in love and thats all that matters.
