I've been playing 6-8 months now. I still suck. I play 2-3 hours a day. Haven't taken any lessons yet.. thinking maybe I should. Any guitar players on here?

It depends on how naturally it comes to you. Usually it's a good idea to take lessons for a bit to get a strong foundation on how to play the guitar and possibly learn some music theory, which will come in handy as well.-Adam Schmidt-

Lessons are a great idea cause you don't want to be practicing the wrong things. Like holding your guitar or how you grip the neck. Get lessons for the absolute basics then from there it's your call if you want to spend hours being told which chords sound right together and pounding scales into your head.

it honestly takes 3-5 years to get decent i think. I didn't feel like I Was any good until 5 years in, after 10 I felt decent, after 15 I feel good about my playing. I have had people tell me i could be a professional.Comment

LOL. 17 yrs in and I still suck. I never set out to be a lead guitarist though, so I still just play rhythm and occasionally do some finger picking. I started playing mainly so that I could sing along and needed the accompaniment. I don't do much of either nowadays though, so what the eff do I know?

This is true. It takes a long, long, long, long time. Unless you have a natural gift, it's a long, hard road. But, it's worth it. I played in orchestra for about 7 years before I picked up guitar, and I think I got it easier than most. I play lots of blues, jazz and "jam band" styles of songs, and the theory I learned in orchestra helped me a lot. Plus, if you don't have any game, picking up a guitar during a party leads to easy waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles.
