damn! no spot to work on the E30

'bout ready to set a bag of dog turds on fire on top of my roommates car. for the past 3 weeks he said we could go out to his parents shop/garage and work on my E30...now today he cancels saying he called his parents and they don't want the car to stay there for a week. Which is how long it would need to stay.

so in the mean time my E30 won't be ready for the Cinqo de Mayo trip i was going to make to San Diego, and I don't have time to find somewhere else to do the work.

    I HATE appartments/condo's.

More importantly, what do you do in Sacramento?! It's the Armpit of CA.

Sacramento is not an armpit at all. what parts have you been to? I go to the University there.

Rent a 10x20 storage space. You will probably have to pay for a whole month even though you only need it for a week but it will be well worth it. When you are working on the car, you don't have to clean up. You can just drop what you are doing and pull the door down vs. working in someone else's garage where you have to keep the place reasonably neat and clean the whole time and then put your tools and parts away before you go home for the day.

Honestly, I cant blame the guy's parents for saying no. Even though you have good intentions, and you are the type of person who will keep their word, an arrangement like this is a very bad idea in general. What often happens in a situation like this is that someone will ask to borrow the garage for this purpose and then what was supposed to be only a week ends up being a few more days and before you know it, the car sits there for 2 months and the homeowner can't do anything about it. If he gets rid of your car, then he creates some degree of bad will between you and your friend. And you would end up suing him for illegally selling your car to the junk man.

So to avoid the problems, the aggrivation, and hurt feelings that go along with an arrangement like this, its smarter to say no.

That's what I'd do. Some of them even have power outlets, and storage places are always running those "first month free" specials.

I hated living in an apartment and having to work on my car, I wasn't allowed to do anything, not even change the oil. The last house I lived in at least had a driveway (no garage), but I would usually still just take it over to my Mom's house or my brother in law's house. I LOVE having my own garage now. I drive through my neighborhood and see all these people with garages stacked to the ceiling with shit, and I will NEVER let mine get like that.

I did once. It was so bad that you couldnt even enter through the roll up door. After my employer went out of business, I had to take home all of the furniture that I bought for my window office. Not long after that, my cousin got evicted and I had 4 rooms of his GARBAGE in my garage. I let it stay like that for almost a year before I was outside in the rain working on my car and the thought hit me like a ton of bricks- My cousin is enjoying the convenience of my garage because he does not pay his rent while I faithfully pay my MORTGAGE and I can't use my garage at all!

The next day I had a 40ft container delivered to the driveway and I have enjoyed my garage ever since.

I drive 3 hours a good many weekends to use my fam's garage/tools. I also eat their food and sometimes do laundry there.

No shame, beats working out front of my apartment which is on a hill. also makes things interesting, because any mods I undertake have to leave the car drivable.

I live in a dorm...worst situation ever.. I have to walk 10 minutes to my car in a GRAVEL lot, then drive an hour to my house where my other car's are to work on them...then when I get there the driveway is of course a hill, so once the car is in the garage and none movable...there it sits.. When I buy a house it will have a FLAT driveway with LOTS of parking and a BIG garage... fuck this shit.

                  Having no garage blows!

I currently have a 10x20 tent but I'd like to replace it with a storage container. They're just so expensive.

                    beal

go to the airforce base, try to get a temporary pass at the front gate and all you need is license and proof of insurance. On base we have like a full service garage since where not "allowed" to work on our cars in the parking lots.
good resource considering they turn rotors for 5 bucks and press out ball joints and stuff for 2..
                    just a shout out.

Nobody should be charging you more than $5 to turn a rotor regardless of where you go unless they are using the machine that turns them while they are still on the car.

So what you are saying is that this full service garage is a place where you can actually work on your car yourself?

You still need to show your Military ID to use on their hobby shops, I tried that with a friend. No go I wasn't in the service so I was told I could not use it even if they he sponsored me.

                        But worth a shot.

Look for a Mom and Pop style garage that looks slow, I have on near where I work that allows folks to rent a bay for 30 bucks for the day and use the lift and access to air for tools. You have to bring your own, but hey it's a start. After going repetitive times I am allowed to use the owners tools now, to bad he has mostly SAE thou due to he's an old 60 Muscle head.

He's got an awesome collection. Nice older crusty type guy. Kinda crotchity and cranky but grows on you.
