glue rubber back on a helmet?

So I just picked up a nice Arai helmet today, its a few years old but should be good for my first helmet until the new RX7 haga or hayden laguna's go on sale :) :) .

BUT, a rubber piece on the bottom has come off.

Also the visor was not adjusted properly when i bought it and would have howled like crazy, perhaps why the owner sold it to me for only $140... 10 mins later and voila, perfect!

I guess it's not as crucial for a car, but you should never buy a used motorcycle helmet unless you have it x-rayed. One drop and it will look fine on the outside but the innards can be compromised. Plus you *should* replace them every 5 years or so. Racing officials usually only allow the current and one past snell cert to be run. So that would make snell '00 the oldest to be run. At least that is what the folks in motorcycle training said 10 times.

Are there any other tests that you can do on the helmet besides X-Raying it? Like with construction hard-hats you can squeeze it sideways and if it cracks, or stays in a deformed state after bending it, then you know its bad.

But all in all I figure for something as critical as a motorcycle I would buy a new helmet anyway.

dunno, I just wouldn't buy used. Helmet's are expensive, but a brain bucket is the last thing I'd go for cheap.

For car racing though, I think it's a lot less important to have a high price helmet (personal opinion). Cars got a cage and hopefully a 4-point or better harness. Fall of the motorcycle it's different type of impact.
