old toys

For some unknown reason I have been on a hunt for some of the old toys I grew up with. Transformers, GI Joes, Star Wars etc... And today went to a book convention here in So Fla and came across these. Dusty is from 1982 and Rip Cord is from 1984. Kind of cool that all parts are with them and not broken. And still has the card that was on the back of the package. These two set me back just at $35 and for me its cool to be able to have something that reminds one of the old days.

Anyone else buy old collectibles or just never got rid of them?

old school GI Joe FTW, i never had Dusty but i definetly had Rip Cord. i'd love to get my hands on a NIB original Snake Eyes and Road Block.

Badass. I remember those little cut-out info cards that were on the back of the packages. G.I. Joes were so badass. I had like a dozen of all the different vehicles and shit, those were my favorite of all the Joe stuff. They always had so much cool shit on them, and you got to put them together when you first got them. I don't know man, just something about those toys, I can almost smell the new plastic when I think about it. :D

the 1982 Snake Eyes they had. It was in the same condition as the ones I have. Cards, all gear, and swords. I wanted to get that as well but he wanted $60 for it and the guy did show wear. NIB is way more money and really hard to find. There is a Destro that fetches just under $600 if you have it NIB! Crazy and only if we all freaking new. Would have been nice to trade in all the old NIB toys for a Porsche GT!

My best friend and I used to play with G.I. Joes and collect them. I peronally was a fan of Mutt and his dog Junkyard. Even back then we knew that one day the collection would be very valueable. That's all we would ever talk about when playing with them. So we kept all of our toys in rather pristine condition even though we played with them on a regular basis. And as for the cutout cards, we kept those too. I kept mine in a shoebox, while my buddy had a special index card box where he kept his cards. Whenever we got duplicates as gifts or through clearence sales at the department store, we would blow them up with fireworks or set them on fire. It was kind of like a stress release from taking meticulous care of our original collections. Anyhow, knowing what I know now, I certainly would have kept my duplicates in the original packaging.

Currently he retains both of our collections and refuses to part with anything at this point. I keep telling him that he should stop playing with these toys and have the stuff appraised.

I still have all of my LEGO's from when i was a kid, along with my Hot Wheels/Matchbox cars and Micro Machines. I also have my Artai. But all of my Transformers, G.I.Joes and He-Man action figures got lost over the years.

I know exactly what you mean, I've got the whole Transformers DVD collection and most of GI JOE. I'm not sure most of the punk ass youngsters on this board understand the appeal of these classic cartoons and action figures. You really have to be born in the 70's to really appreciate GI JOE and Transformers. Throw in there TMNT, Voltron, Thundercats, Silverhawks..etc.

Thats not necessarily true. I was born in '85 and my three most memorable collection of toys I would play with were GI Joes, TMNT, and GhostBusters. I definitely had tons of fun using my imagination playing with those things. Those were at least my "good ol' days." Kids now it seems have no appreciation for the same things that would keep me occupied for hours.

Me too - My next is that Ferrari F1 car.

And despite them ending up lumped in one box, I have 6-8 'expert builder' sets from back in the day.

As for original thread content, I still have all my old Transformers, I never really played with them since I was almost in awe of Japanese toys back then, but I must have 30 or so, with all the cards for them and the red translucent film it took to "decode" their attributes.

I somehow lost my Star Wars box though, I had a Millenium Falcon & a TIE bomber & intercepter, and 15-20 guys. Bummer.


Where's that guy with the baller 6' GI Joe battleship? That's pimp.
