    Getting tar off of...

So my dog and I were running around the La Brea Tar pits today and my dog just happened to discover a brand spankin new tar pit. Needless to say, he stepped right in it. After 45 minutes worth of scrubbing and anguish he's still got the tar in his paw hair.

Anyone know how to get this shit off? I've read that sunscreen works but before I run out to buy some I'd like to see if you guys have any ideas?

Thanks Teaguer, came right off. Anyone know how to revive a dead dog now? Thanks in advance.

I'm sure Blumt can tell you how to perform mouth-to-mouth on dog as he's so chummy with that furball of his .

Gasoline works real good at removing tar. Might dry out your dogs paw though.

I use to live on a beach that had natural tar...

"Baby oil" (or mineral oil - same thing, baby oil just smells preaty)

I used rain-x bug and tar remover on my car. Works really good.

I don't see why it wouldn't work/hurt a dog. It just makes the tar really flexible and just peels off.

I would suggest the gasoline also.. Just be sure to give your dog a bath afterwards in order to wash the gas off of his paw.

leave it or use something natural like baby oil. any of that shit you guys are talking about will absorb into the dogs skin and bloodstream. biscus is smart enough to avoid fresh tar so ive never had that problem, he also warns me if he sees road crews putting down fresh oil and gravel but normally he has an alternative route all planned out to avoid this in the first place

I am sure a little bit of gasoline won't kill the dog. And if it does, hey.. its just a dog. Go get another one. Dogs were designed to be abused. They are resilient and will love you unconditionally.

Goo Gone did the job. All natural and worked like a charm. Turned the sticky tar into liquid goo instantly. Washed his paws real well and he's good to go.
