My new alaska bear gun, s&w model 29, 44mag, 4" nickel.

Nice.. Revolvers are WAY more fun than most people think!
Rock solid, fun, easy to own/clean.
The best time we have at the range is going cylinder for cylinder w. my snubby! No excuses w. a gun that simple! haha
I have been wanting a vest of some sort with mag pouches on the front. Just to use for fun when shooting and running fun drills in the desert that we do. So I was thinking might not be bad idea to pick up something that also has some protection. I came across the US Palm Defender which has soft armor capable of stopping a .44 magnum and can add plates to it as well. So level 3, with the ability to add a plate would be good.
I won't be wearing it daily, probably only when I go shooting in the desert. I also thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to have in the house in case something ever happened. Could toss it on quickly or throw it on my son so he is covered
Apparently though its tacticool to own armor if I am only buying it for those reasons and not going to wear it 24:7. Isn't that the reason most of us own the weapons we do? (Besides hunting and protection) Do we even need a reason other than wanting them? I own an SBR (well almost finished with it) am I going to be clearing rooms with it? NO I have it because I wanted it and am allowed to
^ meh, if I had the funny money for it right now I'd pick something up to. Theres a bit of mall ninja in all of us I think. Sorry this post is mostly useless when it comes to helping with a selection.

Hunting and protection ARE valid reasons to have weapons. There is also sport/skill shooting, collecting, and investing in weapons (firearms). As for the "survival" or "bug out" mentality, I would buy a gas mask before armor. But thats just me. :D
Plate carriers with trauma plates installed are pretty reasonably priced, like under $300. But I haven't seen anything with level 3 Kevlar for the $300 range.
I plan on buying armor for sure living in a big city. If SHTF there will be alotta ppl and guns in a concentrated area...

do some research on Gamma Plates. This is what I have in my tactical tailor plate carrier. You can find them on Ebay as well and I think I got both front and back for right around $300. Link below is just for reference.

I love it! I don't even have it configured to hold very much. I have a million more velcro straps that I don't use. It's got two pouches on the cover flap for mags/anything else. I have 2 30's and then usp magazines as well
Definately worth the $120 bucks I think I paid. Although it was on back order for a few months but they gave me a few freebies to hold me over :)
