Also: I ended up returning the GunVault. The first unit I received stopped opening electronically after about a week. The replacement crapped out after a day. It's possible I got two dud units, but I wasn't about to order a third and hope that one worked out. Returned both and got my money back.

Not sure. For now it sits in the factory Glock case on my nightstand. I have trouble getting those damn snaps open, I can't imagine a 3 year old being able to do it. Even so, their mom wakes up if my hair rustles the wrong way, and they go straight to mom when they come in anyway. When I'm awake it's holstered and on my person.

I'm looking at other bedside safes, preferably ones that use a bolt instead of the simple latch mechanism, but I'm not sure what to do yet. Quick access is important to me, but so is safety. Maybe I'll put one of those magnetic mounts on the wall behind my nightstand. No access for the kids but easily reached by me.
