I don't think you can go wrong with either a Glock or M&P (my personal preference being either over the XD), but if he likes Glock and enjoys shooting it, how is that not the best choice?

I can at least admit that the Glock, M&P, and XD are all direct competition and are for the most part all come down to personal preference.

That all said, I'll stick with my Sig. :D
I'm not disagreeing with you're overall sentiment, but when you've been around guns for many years and then you pick up a Glock with a significantly steeper grip angle it's not "regurgitating mall ninjas" by saying that it doesn't feel natural. He was expressing his opinion (maybe insinuating as fact?) but that doesn't mean he or anyone else doesn't know what we're talking about.

I agree with everything else you said, pretty much mirrors what I said above. :)

Grip angle is a personal preference, and it one can learn to accommodate that angle. However, like I was saying, it's not a natural grip. No doubt that Glocks dont have something going for them. They work and very seldom have issues. For a newbie however, I think a XD, M&P are better options with better sights, triggers, and features. Not sure why you dont like the XD, I have one and have over 2k rounds through and not one problem.

I've heard great reviews about the Walther PPQ. Supposedly one of the best triggers in the market.

He cant go wrong with either of those choices. And like most if he doesnt like it he can usually trade it for something he does or sell it for about what he'll have it and get something else.

Honestly? I can't stand the way they shoot. My friend has one, and compared to the Gen 3 I couldn't stand it. Mag releases can be changed, but I'm right handed and the Gen 3 works perfect for me out of the box.

That said, if you're happy with your gun then that's really all that matters. My friend bought a Taurus PT840 and I've been breaking his balls about it ever since, but he likes it and he's happy. Except he can't find a non-generic holster for it lol

Foxx has a hybrid style holster for the PT840. I've had their full size hybrid and their "little foxx", both worked well. The kydex edges aren't polished, but that be fixed with some sandpaper and about 10 minutes.

Hmm, and not a bad price either. I'll have to pass that along to him.

Hell, if I didn't already have the King Tuk I'd probably grab up the full size. How do you like the clips?

Actually I may order their J clips to install on the King Tuk. I dunno if I got shitty spring steel or what but if I'm not super precise on the draw the clips will ride up my belt. I pulled the holster halfway out of my pants during a draw once lol

I sold it with my old XD, but I didn't have any complaints or issues with the clips.

It's a fact that grip angle, to an extent, is personal preference. However when you say that the grip angle on a Glock is unnatural, that is an opinion. The difference in degrees is miniscule. I believe it's like a 4 degree difference between a Glock and an M&P. I think its a 2 degree difference between a Glock and a 1911. I rarely see people bitching about the grip angle on their Ruger MKI/II/III rimfires or revolvers that have an even greater raked grip. The actual numeric value of the grip angle shouldn't be the determining factor on a purchase, especially when the difference is minute.

I could go on arguing grip angles but its really a moot point. Just because it doesn't feel natural to you, doesn't mean it feels unnatural to someone else. I'll agree that a Glock will feel different in your hand if you're used to firing a different gun. I picked one up and, even with my predetermined dislike for Glocks, it happened to be the best fit for me. My first handgun shooting experience included a G22, HK USP, and an XD. Initially, I wanted the USP, liked the XD (because it was new and supposed to be better than Glock), and hated the Glock (due to all the shit I read online on various forums). Once I shot them I found that I shot the Glock the best, the USP didn't point as well for me, and the XD didn't feel the same quality as either. I'm glad I learned the lesson that each person is different when it comes to handgun comfort/grip before I dropped north of a grand on a gun that wasn't really the best fit for me. Since then, I've shot all of those guns numerous times and I still prefer the Glock. All of them are shootable however. They just take a little adaptability in muscle memory for me to shoot all of them well.

I have no real issue with the XD other than I didn't really like it when I shot it. I thought the grip safety was a little redundant and unnecessary. Looking at it now, I just don't see it doing anything better than either the Glock or M&P line of guns, and I like both of those better. The M&P fits my hand the best. The Gen4 Glock has a mag release I can reach without adjusting my grip and I've owned several Glocks. I'm used to the Glock battery of arms so I just didn't have an urge to switch to an XD or M&P. Is there anything wrong with the XD? No. Is there anything wrong with any of them? No not really. I put them all on the same playing field in the realm of reliability. I wouldn't even say any of them have a better trigger than the others. They're all different. If you're used to one, you might not like the others. Personally I prefer the Glock trigger out of the box. I feel like the M&P has a little too much creep. Both are shootable though and just take a little time to adjust. Personal preference is what should dictate whether or not a gun is right for you. You should pick what fits you, and what you will be happy with. I wouldn't fault anyone for buying any one of them. I don't actually own any of them anymore so I don't have a dog in this fight. I prefer one over the others, but that shouldn't mean shit to anyone else.

I simply stated that if the OP likes shooting the Glock and shoots it well, a G19 would be a great choice for an all around gun.

I personally don't care for glocks. The first non revolver pistol I shot was a glock and I didn't enjoy it. I much prefer my Sig or the m&p. I still try and shoot glocks when I can just so if in a shtf situation and glock is all I have to shoot then I would be fine. They have gotten much better over the years though. I have yet to shoot a gen 4. M&p had a pretty lousy trigger when it first came out, but they are getting much better. I may have to get one of the new Sig striker fired pistols though.

yes you are right...(that usually works with my wife)

Really he needs to go to a range and rent the guns and put some lead down range, then make a decision.
