I'd love a desert range. That would give me an excuse to build the Remington 700 .308 I've always wanted. Around here the farthest you can get is 150 yards unless you want to pay out the ass.

There's an out door range on a campground around here that doesn't care what or how you shoot. Cheap too, but its about 70 miles from here and my truck only gets 15mpg. So yea, I haven't checked it out yet.

Called the Cove for any other NoVa people.

^ Cove has come a long way from when I first started going there. First off you will most definitely want 4wd to get up there, even though I saw a prius up there once...the trail going up to the shooting area has gotten more and more challenging.

As for shooting anything you want, this is mostly true. They do not allow tracers, or any targets that are flammable (propane tanks etc.)

The plus side is they have paved it out much better, so you can actually park off to the side and such. The main range lane has 4 steel silhouette-ish targets you can shoot at about 75 yards..there is an elevated area to the side that is good for shooting shotguns or pistols. I strongly recommend to anyone going to bring PLENTY of targets. Either stuff to shoot at or make a simple frame for attaching paper targets. One of our traditions is to stop by a fresh produce stand thats just down the road and pick up a couple pumpkins, fill them with water and watch them blow up when we hit them with something .30 cal.

I think the rates are something more like 10-12 dollars per person now. It did use to be cheaper, but I guess with the increased maintenance they have been putting into the shooting area, the cost has come up as well.

I try to go on non-typical days..Go on a tuesday or something. The range gets crowded with a lot of mall ninja types sometimes and it can really spoil it for you. Getting the whole range to yourself is a gift from the gods so if it happens so enjoy it.

Definitely going to take that into consideration!

I gotta agree on the weekday thing. When I visit my Brother in Blacksburg we like to go to a state owned range, where we are usually the only people there. Great fun when it's just you.

I'll have to check it out one of these days. I've had the AK for a few months now and have yet to shoot it. It's been driving me crazy.

The Elcan SpectreDR is exactly what you're describing. It's a red dot & also a scope with an illuminated reticle, bdc & variable power. It also has a backup iron sights. It's drawback is weight & price.

Mounted on my LMT MWS. This one is the 1.5-6 power

Have you been to the public range in Casa Grande? Me and my buddy went last weekend and it was actually pretty cool.

^ after looking at the price *HHNNNNNNGGG* lol I can't justify spending 2 grand on an optic for a rifle that I built for less than 800..Maybe some day though. Seriously, did anyone look at the optic I posted from primaryarms? https://www.primaryarms.com/Primary-...-p/pac2.5x.htm

It looks like a good all around optic..I know its not a very popular opinion in the gun community to opt for a less expensive route..but it seems like it fills the role of an ACOG pretty well without the extra $800 bucks. Sure it's not tritium and probably won't withstand anywhere near as much as an actual ACOG, but then again if I'm in that type of situation what the hell am I doing there in the first place right?

                    there is always a C-More
C-More Systems 404: Not Found page. Built for speed, C-More Red Dot Sights will take your shooting ability to the next level. By using a single red dot as an aiming point, target acquisition is as simple as point and shoot.

                    Or a decent burris

Or I think if it were me and I was not going to put the money into a trigi or Eotech or aim point I think I would be putting my money into this more traditional Nikon

Any of you guys have aftermarket sights on a Glock? Trying to figure out what my best bet is. The Hexsight looks interesting.

Read up on ARFCOM. The general consensus amongst their owners is that the primary arms red dots are good budget options. They won't withstand a drop out of a helo, but for a range or brush gun it should work fine.

Nah, I've only been to Rio Salado Sportsman Club as far as outdoor ranges. Usually go there, out near four peaks or up north near Pine.

Been wanting to check out Rio Salado. There's another outdoor on my side of town but I can't remember the name right now lol

We should all plan a camping/shooting trip this summer. Get the AZ guys out of the city and into the fresh air.

The other big outdoor range is Ben Avery, never been there though.

I'd be down for an out of town trip once it get's balls hot here.

Looking to get a new pocket 9mm, no .380s in this household. Sold my Diamondback DB9, wasn't happy with the reliability.

                                So...here are my contenders.

                                Kahr CM9
                                Sig P290
                                Beretta Nano
Kind of like the P938 but that's stretching the budget, and not sure I want to pocket carry and rely on an SA only action.

                                Opinions?
