You have a valid point there sir. I just like semi as to bolt, not because of a follow up but I can quickly engage the second target.

Yeah, makes them quite a bit heavier as-well. Have to be careful with the adjustable stock, one of our guys got his accidentally slammed in a MATV door by another soldier and it was stuck at full length Lol

I'm sure there's some members here who have a 300 blackout set up..was it worth it? I'm starting to get the AR itch again and I'm thinking I would either like to build a 300AAC upper with a suppressor. Which more so brings me to my question:

It would easily cost 1300 dollars to get a 300 upper with a 10 inch barrel and have a suppressor pinned and welded on it to make it 16 inches total. Most of that money would be spent on the suppressor it seems.

For that kind of money I could just as well get an AR10. I suppose I could get an upper that has a 16'' barrel, but wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of going with the 300?

At the risk of pissing everyone off, I'm going to go ahead and ask it; If you were to spend around 1300 dollars on either a 300 upper, or building an AR10, which would you rather have?

I feel the 300 blackout would only be beneficial for suppressed weapons in close combat situations. There is a much easier way to get into the 300 game well under a grand, and that's including your tax stamp. Will it be a tier 1 weapon used in a seal team 6 mission? No, but it would most likely outshoot you and be an enjoyable weapon to shoot.

I think 300BL has lost some of its luster but you are finding more reloading options for them.

PSA had and entire 300BL upper for under $400, then Form 1 and build your suppressor like in the link I supplied a few pages ago. I have summited my Form 1 via their online service, should be about 30 days to complete. Build a 308 can for under $300.

I thought about this exact question for my winter build, and I ended up going with a 308 AR build.

          neither SR25 ;) SR25 = PMAG's AR10 is FAL/M14 mags

308 AR for me, as the ammo supply off the shelf is FAR better, BLK is getting better but it will never be more than niche cartridge with limited factory options and availability. When 308 is one of the most common hunting and military cartridges on the planet, if a .30cal Ar is what your after then a SR25 pattern rifle is where I would be putting my money.

dub beat me to with another angle to consider, but similar results ;)

^ Beat me to it. Just looking on PSA's website alone I could technically be in the AR10 game for around 900 bucks, and they're right up the street from me so I could even pick it up myself and save on shipping.

Honestly I wouldn't even mind giving up the suppressor idea as a whole. I'm still learning about the round but most of what I see is that its main benefit is getting .30 caliber type power out of a much shorter barrel.

Edit-- Sleeve, Would DPMS and Armalite be SR25 pattern? What about PTAC? Since Palmetto State armory is up the road from me its likely the way I'd go. Also you guys have pretty much read my mind.. I'm basically looking to get into the .30 caliber game in some form of AR pattern.

ARmalite is not, DPMS I want to say yes. It sucks in the 308 game, there is no standard. But the SR25 is the way to go. Pmags are on the cheap and have a proven record. Knights, Larue, LMT, CMMG, Mega, and PSA are also SR25 pattern builds. Im sure there are a few more. PSA is kinda hybrid, but takes Sr25 mags.

yes DPMS is SR25 Armalite is the definitive and IIRC the ORIGINAL AR10.

Most of the good 308 AR guys are SR25 though, last I knew most anyone building a 308ar was using the SR25 pattern, Just make sure they will take a PMAG when looking though the specs.

And if you build, buy matching upper/lower (manufacture) The 308 AR has no standard so do your homework.

^ Am I doing something wrong or am I really reading correctly that SR25s are around the 4,000 dollar range? I don't think I could stomach much more over 1300 at this point, and thats without the glass.

Edit- Lol yeah I think I get it now. If I were do do it I think i'd just go with DPMS, I know they've been making AR10s for a while and likely have their stuff straight by now.

Most likely the way I would go about it is to buy it as stock as possible, and slowly over time modify/alter it to my liking. What about a 18 versus a 16 inch barrel?

yeah, we are talking mags not guns when it comes to SR25 receivers.

                      http://store.magpul.com/product/MAG292/PMAG

Go price AR10 mags and compare them to the above.

Just make sure what ever receiver you go with, takes the SR25 mags. Right now just for standard AR fire control groups and common magazines. Hopefully the uppers etc will come to some spec and all will adapt to the standard.

yeah the REAL SR25 from Knight arms is going to be 4500ish give or take and up, when I got my LMT I was considering a full SR25 and speced out how I wanted it was pushing 5500 and this was 4 years ago or so now. But a SR25 PATTERN rifle from DPMS or PSA and the likes are going to be down there around where you want to be more or less, we are talking about the MAG pattern not the specific rifle in which that pattern was taken. I think you can get a DPMS in 308 for less than a grand if you look for a while. A good used Gen II LMT is going to be about another 700 over what your looking to be in at, and about double for new.

You know the answer to that, I was BRIEFLY considering selling my TRG42 but that was also a short lived phenomenon as well. There are 4 that will never be considered for sale even to fund other firearms and my LMT makes that list. Oh and mine is the more desirable GEN I and from what I remember a reasonably early one at that

Any experience with the M&P10 series? Another candidate that accepts SR25/magpul mags...however there is some differences with the handguards apparently.

Nope, Smith makes a great wheel gun, and with few exceptions about the only wheel guns I will ever own. They should stick to that, as I have not been that impressed with any thing else they offer. Especially for the money they charge there are normally better alternatives for less money but at least similar or just a little big more
