Now that I look more closely at the pics it looks kinda like both of you are "tea cupping" with your support hand. AKA the classic movie star grip where your support hand is under the grip cupping your other hand.

This is not a good grip, the idea is to put as much meat on the grip as possible and use the support had as just that extra support. there are 2 styles of proper grip for automatics they are

    this one

    and this one

I like the top one personally, the idea is to get you support hand palm on to the side of the grip and your thumb of that hand should be about the same distance up the frame as you trigger finger is outstretched on the opposite side. This give you great ease in both pointability and more hand meat on the grip to better stabilize your sight picture and get back on target faster for better follow up shots.

Sorry if I am wrong about your grip, but I kinda assume by your postings that you are kinda new to the whole gun/pistol thing. Just trying to help, so you dont have to try and break bad habits latter and get the right technique from the get go is all.

I am trying to learn the "thumbs forward" grip but it gives me trouble with our 1911. Every now and again I flip the safety up. It is however more comfortable and feels better to aim with my thumbs like that.

        I love "hand meat".

then roll your support hand a touch further froward and let your strong hand thumb lay down just a bit further down the grip.

Maybe someone here can help me out. My mom lives in texas and needs to send me a handgun, what's the best way to send it? Should she take it to an authorized dealer and have it sent to a dealer near me?

I'd say move to another state. California is a cesspool.

I'd probably go dealer to dealer since you are dealing with Loserville, U.S.A.

This but you will have to find a dealer that she can take it too, that is registered with the DOJ (department of Justice) to be allwed to shit to the Peoples Republic of Kalfornia

Ok, a few things I forgot to mention:
                    1. This firearm is already registered in the State of CA.
                    2. Firearm was registered to my father who passed away in 2006.
                    3. Since I'm only one generation off, the firearm does NOT need to be registered. I just need a way to get it back to CA.

I was gonna insert a wise ass comment, but I'll leave it lay.

You could take a trip to Texas and retrieve it yourself, I bet your Mom would like to see ya.

Yes, this is the next option if shipping is going to be a huge PITA.

She needs to ship it to an ffl if its going to be shipped and still has to have registration done VIA an intrafamilar transfer its 20 bucks and there no cooling off period.
