turn off your wireless antenna when not online, your battery life can almost double. I have a IBM (lenovo) x60 and I can watch a movie on one charge if nothing else is running in the background. When I flew to Orlando last week, I brought two batteries and watched two movies. It's my first laptop, and although handy for my job, I could never see it as a desktop replacement.

The people that make laptops lie! If you use it as a workstation with grahpics and processor loads, they last than an hour.

My battery's worn down now but for the first year it would last 5-6 hrs.

        Mac.

I get over 2+ hours on the computer. Streaming music/video/multimedia and surfing the web. Screen brightness at lowest setting and if I am not using the internet, wifi off.

My mother's will run for 4+ hours on a full charge.

Some BIOS have a battery conditioner built into them. Basically, it charges and discharges the battery several times to cycle it and bring back some life. Brought back over an hours worth on my GF computer. Look into that.

              I found this interesting:

Introduction As someone who helps people choose the right tech — from home theater setups to office monitors — I often hear confusion about screen size units. Specs are usually listed in inches, but buyers around the world often think in centimeters. In this guide, I’ll show you exactly how…

But I think I'll just live with the batteries I have now, and plan on a new/better batt in the furture.

My Compaq Armada gets me about 2 hours when I remove the CD and floppy drives and stick in the supplied "dummy" cartridges that fill the slots. Not having to run these devices saves the battery life considerably. Also the empty slots double as extra battery bays so I purchased 2 additional batteries and when I run all 3 batteries simutaneously I get roughly 6 to 7 hours of useage when I enable all of the power saving features.

Yeah it really depends on the laptop too.

My dad has a HP "laptop", I call it a portable desktop. It has a desktop processor and a 17" screen, he gets 30min if he's lucky.

I have a Compaq NC8000 which I can get ~3 hours pretty easy on. Its centrino so the CPU will downclock when it is not in use, also I dim the screen as low as it will go which extends the life a on more.
