          I use both Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware SE. Both are free and work really well. Also, HijackThis is a great program too.

                      If you're willing to pay a bit, the best virus/malware defence is Kaspersky. Get the full suite, and you're impervious. It's subscription-based, but totally worth it.
