I hate any and all music that uses and abuses melisma.

If you are unaware, Melisma is creating a run of many notes from one syllable. Think of that godawful "I will always love you" by Whitney "crackwhore" Houston and every god damn idiot on that american idle.

I was really dissapointed when the latest "Even in Blackouts" album had gratuitous use of melisma in 2 or 3 songs. After 2 stellar albums it sounded like she was trying out for american idol

I hate music that is shoved into my ears by large companies.
And to boot (hand in hand), I hate music by artists that don't write their own music.

All I've learned from this thread is r3v has alot of pretentious douchebags that can't just throw on some music and enjoy it and instead has to e-knight their way around the thread dropping industry buzzwords like critics to explain their distaste for music which most of you don't have a problem with at all, but enjoy badmouthing on the internet.

    edit:

And for my two sense, I really don't think anyone can hate rush if they see YYZ and Where's my thing performed back to back live.

I'm with you on this. Most modern stuff (not all - there are exceptions) stinks IMHO. A lot of the styles of music seem to be products of a corporation looking to cash in on a trend. I'm not saying there isn't any genuine talent out there - its out there, just seems harder to discover I suppose. Because of this I listen to specific genres of music on Yahoo streaming radio or Pandora. Being able to filter out the BS and listen to what I like is a good thing.

Having said that, and being the older fuck that I am, a lot of 80s stuff I enjoy as well as early 90s grunge. Some classic rock and pop from the 70s is good as well.

So to address the whole point of this thread, I do not listen to....

    country
    rap
    speed/scream metal
run-of-the-mill techno found on DTMpower forum videos

    Quoted for truth.

I really can't stand that grunting death metal stuff, seems like such a cop-out for vocals.

    eiffel 65.....that "blue" song..guh

punk died in the 80's when the pistols imploded, the clash disbanded, and the dead Kennedy's were probably the last of the greats.

+1 too most of whats been said, its about time we had a surge of new good music....like the 70s when music was huge arena rock multi-million dollar boredom acts, and punk came a long :p
