Hello from Manila! --> and Hawaii!

I semi posted in the outage thread, however I figured I would toss up a thread about my trip to the other side of the world!.

I am here on business, turning up an overseas facility. I am in the sales/marketing field (IT) so like most companies I am turning up a call center over here, not a telemarketing call center, but think of it as a support/information center..

Landed here a few days ago, and will be here until August 15th, traveling with me is my friend/coworker, so its been fairly interesting so far.

Everything here is cheap cheap cheap, as the usual income is around $400 USD a month. Want to see a movie? thats 3 bucks! Want some Chinese food? thats $1 dollar.

a fifteen minute cab ride to the airport is 1 dollar, or a 20 min ride to the Mall of Asia is $2.50

Hotels around here are plentiful, and being american/white we are instantly assumed as being very very wealthy, which compared to the locals is very true.

Here is a shot of the apartment that we are living in at the moment, its around 3000 sq feet, 38 stories up and $200USD a night to live in. Free internet, etc.

Its a 2 bedroom, 4 bathroom, 1 full kitchen, dining room, living room, laundry room, etc. We have a roll out bed as we have 3 here at the moment for a few more days.

I cannot show many pictures of our facility due to NDA's, however we are in a downtown highrise, newer building, and just imagine a large room of cubical's and computers/phones.

Yesterday, with the opening of the Simpsons movie, we had to treck out to a mall.

We ended up at the Mall of Asia, which is the largest mall in this country, and the 7th largest mall in the world!.

Its so large, even Dell built a call center in one of the spare buildings!

More of the outside of the mall of Asia

    Universal studio's anyone?

Anyway, its around 7am Monday morning here (I think) so off to breakfast, will update more later!

I am looking! Nice cars are not really that abundant around here, I've seen quite a few newer cars, however tons of Jeepneys (google it and laugh) and smaller cars (corolla's, civics, etc)

        I have seen 2 BMW E90's, both 325i's, One E36 316i 4 door automatic, and one 318i E46.

        That is all so far!

James, you should check out the local paper/classifieds for cool stuff while you are there! Not that your car needs anything...

I have been there numerous times, and my girlfriend and soon to be the misses is from there(no it is not for the money). The phillipines is not that bad, think downtown tj but with huuuge malls and lots of fine women. I have lived in the usa my whole life and being there was a huge experience, that made me feel that i shouldnt take anything i have for granted. My family is originally from there everyone except me was born there. i have only seen one e36 and that was it and i go there twice a year. Since i was 12. Have fun and if you have the chance go to the boardwalk im not sure but they usually have a festival thing they do on there with live shows and such. Oh and if you have the balls try eating "balut" phrase to a taxi driver or at a restaurant, say this "pare, gusto ko mag kumain ang isaang balut" but only if you have the balls, the other pinoy's should know what im talking about

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.
