Right now, it IS too early to tell. But Pierced said has solid merit, it's no secret in the media industry that porn decides the format. About 6 months ago, Sony had released a statement saying that they would not allow porn to be made and/or sold on Blu-Ray, but they seemed to have changed their tune since then, so it's hard to say. This sounds hilarious, but many of the big names like Vivid and the like in the porn industry are also hesitant to go to HD at all, because a lot of the actors/producers are wary about the amount of detail that HD shows, and that it will be harder to "hide" a lot of things.
I actually haven't started buying anything in HD or Blu-Ray yet, because I don't have a player, and I don't want to start buying until I know a little more what format will come out on top. The plus side is that a lot of HD DVD's are coming out in dual-format discs, with standard DVD on one side and HD on the other, so at least you can buy those, and if HD DVD loses out, you can still watch it on you DVD player, so it's not a total loss. And like someone said earlier, there are a few combo format players, but you're talking $1000-1300 for them, so it's kind of a toss-up. My reccomendation is to wait it out, unless you've got an XBOX 360 or a PS3 already.
