    WTF ebay? new buy-it-now policy?

So, in my auction for the M3 rear seat (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MESO:IT&ih=017) there were 5 bids, then it ended with Buy-it-now. This was a no reserve auction.

In the past, the BIN option disappeared once a bid had been placed. WTF? I structure my auctions a certain way, and I need to know WTF the new BIN policy is. I can't find it ANYWHERE.

    Anyone know?

I've noticed this in the past - It's not a new policy it's like some option you have to select.

            AFAIK -

BIN only goes away if it is a reserve auction, and the reserve is met. Open auctions without reserve, the BIN remains, until the BIN is surpassed(?).

            I could be wrong.

And no, somebody didn't get a good deal, IMHO. They overpaid, so Joe got the good deal.

It's ebay - everyone overpays. Joe is a good seller. while he may be mildly more expensive - I go to him when I need something fast and don't want to spend a ton of time looking for it.

FWIW, I think the price on the seat was very fair. My last seat that was in better shape sold for $500, plus shipping to Italy. I hear they are not making them anymore.. ;)

As far as the buyitnow policy used to be:
On a no-reserve auction, the BIN was available until a bid had been placed. On a reserve auction, the BIN was available until the reserve had been met.

I don't usually do reserve auctions, so why the BIN was still available is baffling to me. I noticed this started happening over the last 3 weeks.

                  Thanks for the praise Patrick!

By the way, not everyone overpays on ebay!

                  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

That was totally my fault though, I accidentally had that as a 5 day auction instead of my normal 7-day... They ended on a Sunday, oops!

I'm not making any judgement on your pricing/costs.
But I wouldn't pay $300 for a seat in that condition.... I'd rather spend the $500+ on one that was perfect. ;)

I used to love ebay, now I despise it.

It's the buyers that are the problem not the sellers.

it really depends on the commodity.

Rare items that are high in demand will skyrocket.

Common items go for cheap. Price out an M20 alternator on ebay... I bet you can get them for $9.99 all day long.

                        eh, whatcha going to do?

Ebay changed their BIN policy recently- I'll have to find the exact linky, but basically it was something like this:

The BIN option will remain in place until the bids reach ~1/2 of the BIN price.

(again, I'm going off memory, and I'm old and can't remember shit, so take this with a grain of salt).

I think it's a good thing- not sure if you were pissed off at this new thing or just surprised.

Yeah, I looked and can't find it now either- strange.........

I'm pretty sure I remembered it correctly (as posted above), and it seems like it only applies to Ebay Motors Parts and Accessories listings.

I'll look some more and post up if I can find the policy...
