Having a credit card is a hell of a lot smarter than carrying around a wad of cash in your wallet. As long as you are smart and pay your bill in full every month then having a credit card will actually be a benefit.Comment

VISA will cover any fraudulent charges made on my card.
I had no credit score. I have no credit cards, I've never taken out a loan for a car, and my mortgage was written at the current prime rate. Sure I don't have a PS3 or a big plasma, but I carry a $200K mortgage on $45k a year salary very comfortably even after tithing 10% and putting another 12% in my 401k. If I can't afford something without dipping into my emergency fund, then I don't buy it. I sucks sometimes, but I know it';; pay off later.
Like another poster said, make yourself a written budget, and stick to it. I know it sounds like common sense, but it will feel like you've gotten a %15 raise.Comment
