M3 Ryan and I put a m20 into a 02 once, that car was scary to drive. Man, the steering and the petals suck a bit. My size 12's don't fit at all, stepping on the gas, I hit the break petal too.
I would never drive one unless I but in a quick rack and a new petal box. I assume others have the same problem?
???
maybe you guys had to beat the tunnel in to clear the slave cyl on the tranny? i dont have huge feet but im fine with the pedals and the steering is awesome compared to an e30. light and nimble. my e30 feels like a pig after i get out of my 02
Your car isn't a daily driver, it has DCOE's. TWO of them even. I bet you have tons of fun keeping those in tune (coming from a guy who had one on his car).
Here is my 2002. It has a SOLID drivetrain/mechanicals. Just needs a suspension and body/paint work. Hopefully next summer I am able to devote the time to get it ready for paint, remove bumpers, install flairs, early style fiberglass rear bumper and turbo front spoiler. Paint choice is going to be....Avus Blue. I have owned the car for coming up on 4 years this December. Was my first car. Most Important. NO RUST!!!
The motor has Piano top pistons, 292 cam, 3 angle valve job, dual valve springs, SS swirl polished valves, lynx intake, weber 45dcoe, carter electric fuel pump, ramflow filter, bav auto wires, pertroix ignitor, bosch blue coil, bav auto long tube and Ansa Sport Exhaust.
You know who has that cherried out red one here in the Valley? I was out with a girl the only time I could give it a walk-around, so I made a quick lap & got on with my evening (it was parked on the street in front of the place we were eating), but it looked at least a 7-8 on a 10 scale.
You know the one I'm talking about?
It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.
Did it have no front bumper and a front spoiler? If so that is my friend Spencer (02tii on the forum). He recently moved to Santa Barbara and drove it down there. It is a 72 2002tii with a built motor, Full IE/Bilstein Suspension, 320is recaros, autopower half cage, all new carpeting, 5sp etc etc. I only got to drive it once right before he moved after a year restoration of the undercarriage, interior and drivetrain. Was one of the funnest cars I have EVAR driven. He left Anacortes with less than 200 miles on the restoration and made it to Cali with ZERO problems.
I never understood the whole 02 bumper deal. I know the big ones lookg ugly as hell, do you 02 guys just take them off and run without them? Or is there like another kind thats commonly swapped on?

big bumpers are ugly but on a driver they serve a purpose. on my orange 70 the slightest tap would cause body damage. the bumpers are cheesy and flimsy and literally sit 1/4 inch off the painted bodywork. they look cool but are useless . if i had a later car with big bumpers id still do a conversion to smaller ones because its better to look cool than be functional anyways

So early 02s had small ones and later big fattys? I guess thats kinda like the e30s where you do the plastic swap.
Doesn't look like Lee has a bumper at all though. Hows that street legal?

yes 73 US cars were the last small bumpered cars. then they got the aluminum big ones.
ive been running my 69 with no front bumper all summer and never been bothered. i suppose it just take the right cop and you have a ticket though. its not legal in minnesota but i would just say its at the chrome shop. if the guys decent he will give you a fixit ticket and you just go put it on and have any cop sign off on the ticket and youre good to go
