I've been procrastinating on getting my CHL since 99. Actually I think it's procrastinating with a little bit of a subconscience decision to not get it. Personally, I just don't really see me carrying around town on a regular basis or even on a not so regular basis. I try not to put myself in the place or position where I would require that benefit, or should I say, constitutional right. Of course, I realize that place or postion is relative to probability and chance but one can lower those chances with the right decisions.
I've kept a Mossberg Persuader in my residence for a few years now but I'm glad to say it's only been fired at the range.

I thought the same thin about not putting myself in a place or position to need to exercise my right to bare arms... That was until on evening in a really nice part of town where crime was not a big deal at all and while sitting first in line at a red light, some black guy tried to get in my car on the passenger side. Thankfully the doors were locked and no one was coming through the red light from the other direction , because I gave him the finger and smoked the tires in my Q45 as I spun him around while he was holding the door handle. The very next day I signed up for my carry license and now I do not leave home without multiple guns on my person period.... I thankfully have not needed the use of them since then BUT I will without hesitation now !!!

If anyone is riding the fence on getting a permit, do it soon. Even if you don't plan to carry (I didn't when I got mine 5-6 years ago, I did it mainly so there were less possible rules I'd be breaking during transport to & from the range), the next go around in elections might get us a Dem Prez out of Bush backlash (not a politics thread, just giving a scenario) - and Hillary's crew isn't known for true common sense approach to gun laws.
I got my carry based on a friend who made the same decision - neither of us really planned to carry, but I don't want Big Bro telling me I simply can't.
Also, really think before you start carrying - if there is ever a day you feel the need to pull it out, you need to be able to defend the truth that you did all you could to avoid a confrontation.
Seriously, the only reason I carry now is that my back is still so wasted from getting hurt, that I'm as useless as a 80 y.o. woman in a bad scrape right now.
And I know that only my very best friend knows I ever have it on me, and I'm very respectful of his wishes that I don't bring it in his house, loaded anyhow. He & I shoot together semi-regularly, but his wife objects, and I respect that.
I'll give up my car to a carjacker, I even fork over my wallet if need be, but if someone is planning to put me in a dirt nap, I need to be able to either change their mind, or stop it entirely.
Besides, you'de be amazed at how unobservant other people are - I don't even see guns on a lot of people when they pull them out at the local gun shop.
It feels like you are some lawbreaker the first couple days, but that passes pretty quick.
It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.
