SpinRite + Failed HD

Running SpinRite now, any other recomendations or other methods of rescue... The notebook is only 9 mo old. I bought the G/f a new one. Took the dead one, tryng to rescue it so I have a garage computer for r3v'in while 24v swappin. I will pop a new HD in, but I have 2400 pics on it.

I used "Get data back"

Its more for shit you accidentally deleted, but I think it can try to interface to a dead drive.

If the drive is really bad and you really want your stuff. Its about $800 to get it professionally recovered.

Expensive lesson to learn to backup ;)

I was able to salvage data on a dead drive by double bagging the drive in ziplocks and tossing it in the freezer for a few hours.

Pulled it out and copied my data off, then chucked it.

Not sure how bad yours is, but mine would stop working once it got hot.

Yep, freeze it. And stop playing with it - usually HD's will give you only a small window of time that they will let you get data off them.

As a last resort, sometimes wacking them works. (or at least it helped me cope)

1) Try rotating the drive back and forth (not wacking it).
2) If you have access to a usb/ide bay, try connecting it to another computer as a secondary drive through usb.
3) try partition magic, it has restored several hd's for me.

As a longshot, try a software called casper xp, it clones drives, but the data will be accessible if it manages to clone it, you need a partition larger than the drive to copy it, you could do this with partition magic.
