like the title says. I'm wondering because I'm thinking about doing it depends on what the doctor says. but if you did it work?

I am going though the same thing. I found out about 5 weeks ago I have cancer in my L1 disk. Not really feeling like going though it.
What is the reason you are looking at surgery?Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs!

yeah thanks you too. I had broken my back in 97 in a car crash. I had the lower back fused together. I opted that vs rod surgery. Now its either Kemo/Radiation or just plain removal of the disk. Ill know more Nov.
Id opt not for it, unless its major pain or things are getting worse. IF your young you are better to pull it off. But expect arthritis to set in early. So stay active and do ever give up stretching. That helps me now.Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs!

try yoga... i'm not even kidding. a lot of back pain is from overtightened hip flexors/quads/hams. Massage did nothing for me, but my chiropractor is a god send. I couldn't hardly walk a year ago... started seeing the chiropractor, and when I was done I had great posture and grew about an inch:). Best of luck and hope it gets better... i know how bad the back can bePNW Crew

I would put surgery as your absolute last attempt to correct the problem. People have come out of surgery with more pain and more problems plenty of times when related to back pain. There are books that show you exercises and techniques to help repair any damage. I would also see a physical therapist.sigpic

I agree with uofom3.
What could it hurt right? This will sound farfetched, but have you ever thought of Chinese medicine?
Extremly good tea shop that may be able to perscribe a tea. Uncle is a graduate of Georgia Tech and is one of the most intelligent people I have ever met. i drink the hell out of their lychee black tea. I probably go through a pound every two months. Call and ask them. If you tell them what is wrong with you they will probably be able to help. Oh and pick up some black and some mandarine orange tea.
Never rule out holistic medicine, it beats having a doctor cut into you and "practice"Last edited by delatlanta1281; 09-17-2007, 08:12 AM.Yours truly,
