As a keeper of reef fish tanks, the first one is a common site in fish-keeping...

although, the second link really wowed me. that is by far the most amazing impersonating bird i have ever seen. i almost doubt it's legitimacy.

That shrimp was cool, amazing what some of the stuff in nature is.

That's one heck of a show, it would be a disaster if he fired that bubble at/near the glass & broke the tank. At least with acrylic he'd just melt a hole.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

Pistol Shrimp are bad ass. The only downside is to keep them, you need an acrylic tank. And I personally dont like acrylic tanks. Otherwise they can potentially break your glass on your tank. The little peppermint shrimp that the pistol shrimp killed are useful little guys. Though its kinda hard to see spending $18-$22 a piece for fucking shrimp.

Actually what you are thinking of is mantis shrimp... pistol shrimp are ok to keep in glass tanks. that little clicking isn't enough to break a tank.

              here's a video of a mantis shrimp.

and the shrimp he stunned and possibly ate was a cleaner shrimp. peppermint shrimp are red and white.

              just being nerdy.

You're right. pistol shrimp have the Gobies that have their simbiotic relationship. I was thinking mantis, not pistol. I could swear thats a peppermint though... Thats what the MFers are sold for here at least. I guess I should visit TRT again soon lol. Also being nerdy I suppose.

Are these little guys the peppermint shrimp you are talking abut?

Took this in Bonaire a few months ago.

no, those are actually coral banded shrimp and that seems to be a great example of a mated pair.

the female is slightly larger than the male though, making me wonder. they should be the same size since they switch off monthly being male/female. reef shrimp are amazing.

here is my old 10 gallon nano set up i had before i switched over to a 33 long w/ sump set-up. you can see the mated cleaner shrimp here:

here is my tank when i first set-up the 33:

That's a nice looking setup, I wonder if I'd save any cash having a nice tank rather than flying to warm water destinations.

There aren't many reason people travel soo far to an island like Bonaire.
