An auto shop in the basement with this type of lift is an awesome idea! It wouldn't be cheap to do but I am sure it would be a mind blower to your friends when they come over to see the game and you have a couple of cars sitting in your basement.
A neighbor of mine actually has a basement level garage with a steep ramp from the street that gets you down there. Having a the lift would make things more discreet.

that thing is cool but looks like its pricy. it would be real cool if you had a basement then you could use it as a shop. that would be even better. but make sure you get some kind of ventalation system and soundproofing on your floors. i help design a house with a airplane garage in it and you couldnt hear a thing if it started.Leave a comment:

Not to change the subject here but I thought about digging a pit in my garage. There is a company in europe that makes a lift that goes underground and essentially you drive the stored car on to the lift, lower it under the surface and then park your every day car on top of it. You can use it indoors or outdoors. In the write up I saw in Popular Science showed this guy who installed one in his front yard and then grew grass on top of it so that it would match the rest of the lawn. Here's a link:

This video & lift is from one of the companies I'm interested in. Here's the link, I guess it works again. http://www.aclifts.com/ BTW-that setup is pricey! I'm thinking more in the 2-4K range. Thanks for the vid.

Here's another company that looks promising. http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/Di...ppro-park7.htm
There might be a GB from a member over on s14.net that posted up on my thread about the lift.

Thanks for all the input guys. Here's a link to one of the companies I'm looking at.
Manufacturer and Dealer of American-made lifts including car lifts, freight lifts, and custom lifting solutions. Your satisfaction is always guaranteed.
I'm not quite set on them yet, but they're pretty local so I'm gonna give them a first shot. Besides I haven't purchased the condo yet so I've got sometime to go over options and choices.

I don't know what happened to their site/link. When I posted up this afternoon it was good. Also, I think that If I've got a good 10 feet maybe a little less of floor to ceiling clearance it will be OK.Last edited by ///M0F01SD; 09-18-2007, 10:53 PM.Leave a comment:

They are just "hobbyist" lifts. We have one at school, you can get them for around $1200 or so.
The one we have doesn't have to be bolted to the floor, that way we can move it around, or even outside, if we want.Leave a comment:

I'm looking into getting a lift for the new garage, but it will be mainly for working on cars not stacking them for storage.Leave a comment:

Rey, we stored cars like that all day and all night long at school. Never failed once, even with a bunch of retards operating the lifts.Leave a comment:

my uncle had one of those things, and it seemed to be awesome. the quality looked great. it also had a pan that it looked like he made.
what do they cost anyway? looks like it would be great for some small repairs too.
