    Best buy is fucking gay

So, Last year on my birthday I went out and bought 2 flat screen tvs. Like a week and a half ago my 32'' LCD dies on me. I go into best buy - tell them whats up - and they tell me to call some 1800 #. So - I call and schedule an appointment - the next available is in like a week. I had to watch the texans game in my bedroom which was gay. And I had to watch the OC with my girlfriend all week. Naturally it's one of those "between 7 am and 5 pm" things on the day he's scheduled to come. So I get a call from some asian dude who speaks virtually NO english. He shows up - we tell him what the people at best buy probably said was wrong - and he decides he will take their word for it. Doesn't even look at the TV. He said he's going to go check on the part and call me later. He calls me at like 8pm and tells me that the part they need is NLA but he has to order it anyways. If it doesnt show up in 2 weeks they will replace my tv. SO I will be out of a TV for 3 weeks. I told him that was retarded - he agreed with me and told me to go to best buy. I went up there and talked to them - no one there knows anything. they told me to call some guy the next day. So I call some asshole at my lunch break and he didn't know anything either. I finally got a call at like 6pm saying im approved for a new TV.

Heres where it gets really annoying. After standing in the customer service line forever - i get up there and they tell me i have so and so amount of credit for a new tv. I go back to the TV area - spend a bunch of time picking a 50'' out - and i was just going to pay the difference. I got the deal all worked out and was ready to buy a LG 50'' 1080p w/ a full warranty - then some dude tells me his manager was wrong and I only get like half of the credit he told me I would. I go back to the manager - the guy who told me I'd get the full amount back - and he tells me the other guy was wrong and goes to try to settle it. They argue for literally 45 minutes - all the time im watching the same blu ray presentation over and over - then come back and tell me I have WAY less than half the price I spent on my TV in credit - and I lose my remaining 3 years on my warranty. I was so irritated I asked if i can have my money back to go somewhere where the employees know what they are doing. This seriously wasted my entire night last night. Bottom line is I'm going to go back and use my wimpy credit to get a 50'' anyways - but this whole experience has SUCKED!

That's why you don't buy electronics from large retailers. Plus they usually don't have anything decent either...

So where the hell should I buy stuff? Most other places are WAY overpriced.

          Magnolia Audio Video

They were recently bought by BestBuy. Do not, however, confuse their dedicated home theatre stores with the "Magnolia Home Theater" section at Best Buy. They're basically using their name to sell low end trash.

I don't really want a super high end TV. I just want a decent enough big TV to fill my new living room. Seriously - I only play wii and ps2 sometimes and pretty much just watch football and some movies. I don't need a mega badass TV.

I could not get any useful information from the ass clowns at Best Buy when trying to buy my 50" a few years. They simply could not even answer any questions about any of their products they were selling. So I left and went to a local electronic retailer and not only did I get the answers I was looking for but I got $300 off the same tv I was looking at Best Buy. Both places had this tv listed at the same price but Best Buy does not discount and this guy made me the offer to get my business, and not only did he discount it but even gave me a 3 year warranty with it. Every since this experience with Best Buy not being able to answer questions about their product, that honestly I have not even stepped a foot back in a Best Buy since.

I could have left last night with a 32'' plasma - alot like the one I had. But they filled my head with 50'' ideas when they told me I had 1400 in store credit. When I moved into my house the 32'' was going to go into the bedroom - but ill keep the 27 in there for now and put a 50'' in the living room.

There is only 1 costco down here and it's really far away from me.

WELCOME to BB! I have NEVER had a pleasant or positive experience locally or otherwise with them. Sheet, in some places they don't even answer the phone. Seriously, I was in a bind and needed a laptop ($2000.00) and they didn't even answer the phone!

Anyway the only place I buy electronics is Costco. The selection is limited but there is a 90 satisfaction guaranteed or a FULL refund. After that there is a 2 yr manufacturers warranty. I haven't checked into the specifics of that but might be worth it.

Not too long ago Costco would take it back regardless of the 90 days. I have a friend who took his 5 yo desktop back and told them he was not happy with how slow it was and they gave him all his money back with no questions.

That is probably what has brought about the 90 day limit policy. But sheet, I would rather pick through their limited inventory than wait in line only to get screwed anyway at another retailer.

                      Good luck man.

I dont think Sams is comparable. My brother always buys stuff at Costco over Sams because of the return policy of Costco. So my quess is he has found out about this the hard way...

Either Costco or as Ken suggested, Magnolia.

I can attest to the stellar job they do. I had a Dolby Pro-logic receiver back in the day, and it had problems. I had bought the 5 year warrenty from them, and so once it was in for service for the 3rd time it fell into their lemon status, and so without question I had the full amount I spent to get a new receiver. No pro-rated, no like kind or same as crap - straight up dollar amount. It was a intermittant deal, and it was 3+ years by the time I took it in for the last time - but Dolby Digital was invented, and their warrenty meant I got all my money for a DD box.

Also their in-house repair covers your remote - even if you step on it. For real.

You always have to jump through some hoops to get a full replacement, except from the Costco policy - but seriously check on their TV policy before you buy - I know they changed it recently because they got sick of all the people who "bought" TV's for Super Bowls, then returned them.

Be thankful - I had to drive to Seattle from home (140 mile round trip) to get to a Magnolia, but I still stand by them. It's not easy owning baller toys, so either hire a personal assisant or be thankful you at least got your full amount out of Best Buy even if you had to wait a couple weeks.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.
