Does anybody Remember MCO? 56k stay away

Anyone ever play Motor City Online? IMO This was the best Online Racing game ever made. You could tweak every little detail on your engine, suspension, gearing, and wheels. Go out and race against your friends in a ultra rare chopped, decal 65 mustang etc. You had the chance to meet all kinds of people in general chat and in the forums. Unfortunate for the customer base of MCO EA shutdown the servers. I heard a couple computer programmers that loved the game made an offshoot of the game based of F1 Racing Championship, but never got it too work.

Car Craft also did a review of MCO where they built up there project super nova in the game down to the correct carb, trans, and diff. They took it down the drag strip and it ran a 1/4 mile time to within i think a tenth of a second. How can you scrap such a great game.

I was all 'bout Interstate 76 back in the day. I even made some geeky html web pages with paint and notepad. Wish I'd have saved that stuff. That was when I realised the value of pc games. There was no way to hack your n64 or playstation. But, with the pc you could create skins. Wow, I rememner those days... I feel aged.

That game was out before I had my license 01' thru 03'. I've had roughly 7 cars, sadly enough the fastest one being a b16 swapped honda with a gsr trans and quaife lsd g/c coils, and it's coolest added features heads up display out of a Pontiac bonneville, and twilight sentiniel out of Cadillac.

Regardless I'm really not much of a gamer I spend all my time in the garage doing well pictures are worth 1000 words so...

Anyway, if EA games properly advertised that game, it would have been very profitable for them. What other online game can you tweak your spring rates, gear ratios, and build up a small block 350 with licensed parts from Edelbrock or Demon carbs, and take it to the drag strip and run a very realistic 1/4 mile time.

I remember seeing ebay listings for people selling 1 million dollars cash (video game money) for over $100 with multiple bids there were people making part time jobs out of playing video games

This is Wikipedia's outtake on the downfall of MCO

Aside from EA focusing on The Sims Online, another contributing factor to MCO's demise was the game's technical setup. Lag, as with most online games, was a problem, with cars acting unpredictably during times of high latency. Falling subscription rates (from an alleged peak of 36,000; this figure is disputed) and a lack of new interest in the game eventually led to its downfall. Previous Motor City Online users were offered access to The Sims Online or Ultima Online

Some of the gamers got together and recreated MCO, but i dunno if its any good. http://www.motorworldonline.net/
