Students: Microsoft Office 2007 for $60 (not SPAM, this is real)

A friend of mine just sent me this link:

Shop the latest Microsoft Store online sales and deals at a great price! Get more of what you want for less with discounts on Surface, laptops, computers, PCs, Xbox, Gaming, software, and more.

You can get Get Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 for $59.95 if you are a student at a US University. It's like a 90% discount, just thought that some r3vers would be interested since there are a lot of college age kids here.

And yes, this is real: http://www.microsoft.com/education/ultimatesteal.mspx

That can't be a 90% discount because I get MS Office Enterprise 2007 for $20 from my company.

BUT, since that isn't avail for you guys, the student thing is an excellent deal!

Me, too, but you aren't getting it for $20. You get it for free, your company has paid for the license. You are paying $20 for the media it arrives on.

I don't really support this, because Microsoft is obviously just trying to lock an entire generation of students into using Office, but I figured I'd post it for those that have no choice but to buy it.

Microsoft does not want to lose their 99% of the market share. About 10 to 15 years ago MS used to bundle their office suite with a new PC until Word, Excel, and Powepoint became the industry standard. Nowadays people are learning and figuring out that there are open source freeware programs that do the same thing (and work better in some instances).

we get Microsoft Windows XP and Vista free from NCState (as well as some other MS software for dirt cheap/free). Yet I still decided to install Ubuntu on my laptop :D

Over 100 Million People do, allegedly. I'm a Thunderbird type of guy personally, but intelligent people don't exactly make up the market share in this case.

Going with your logic, who the fuck uses windows or internet explorer for that matter? Think about it.

Have you never stepped food into a corporate office? Outlook paired with exchange dominates every enterprise level network in the world, with the exception of some linux based corporations

Yea, and depending on the agreement, it's probably not allowed to be installed on your home computer....legally.
