    mercedes 2.3 16v

I have done some reading abou the 2.3 16v mercedes and how it was built to compete with the e30 m3 etc. etc. what i want to know is how expensive is is to own one? I have owned 3 e30's and found that they are relatively easy to work on and the parts are cheap (junkyard). Can the same thing be said about the mercedes 2.3 16v? Any info would be great. thanks matt

There pretty easy to work on, i help my friend with his all the time (i drink beer and tell him hes doing it wrong lolz) but seriously its real simple.
    its a blast to drive!

edit: not sure on parts. i doubt you'll find many 16 valves in the junkyard. but i know theres a 190e forum that prolly has stuff for em.

cool thanks for the help. I agree with when you say there will not be any 16v at the junkyard i know that these cars are becoming more rare. Thats why i wanted to know if some parts from a normal 190e would be interchangeable. thanks again. keep it coming guys

I used to own one. They are finicky and in my opinion can be expensive to own(Similar in maintenance cost to an E30 M3, if not a little more). It was easy to work on. Frankly, the roadgoing version in America simply does not compete with the E30 M3. You certainly feel the extra weight...

Overall they are a lot of fun and turn a lot of heads, but take your time finding one as getting into a "bad" one will really cost you a crapton of money...

And as previously stated...finding one in a junkyard would be a rare event.

Well, my 16v had a cossie engine in it as well(as they all did). He's not bsing you. They are characterized by a rear wing, very slight fender flares, front air dam, rear apron, sport seats, dogleg tranny, in car lap timer, etc.

Actually, it was the other way around. BMW built the E30 M3 to compete with the M-B 190E 2.3-16V Cossies that were cleaning up in Gruppe A since 1983. The first M3's didn't hit the scene until 3-4 years later.

True. The engines were built by Cosworth. As for pics, here's a pic of the full range, with a 2.3-16V in the back and the awesome 2.5-16V Evo II in the front:

It's certainly no M3.. but then I guess that is the point. Looks like a Benz with a rice-wing to me.

                              Youve owned 3 cheap non-M e30s. An S14 e30m3 is a whole 'nother ballgame.

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
