Go ahead and overdress. Let your choice of clothing tell them that you are:
1. Serious (no slacker skate punk here guys, I want to join YOUR club!)
2. Willing to do whatever is necessary to be worthy
3. Capable of dressing the part of an investment broker
Go man, go.

Easy. Dark suit (navy blue or gray) with a white shirt and dark tie. Shiny lack shoes with black socks and a black belt. A nice watch (if you have one) ... no watch if all you have is a plastic Seiko or something.
Have a nice pen and a small pad of paper on you. If you're bringing copies of your c.v. or any other documents with you, put them in a folder of some sort.
BTW, you didn't say what level position you were applying for. But this is a good general approach for any professional environment.

^^^^Spot on. Especially good call on the cologne. It has no place in the working world.
If you have any visible tatoos I'd make an effort to conceal as well. They may be more common, but that doesn't mean they are something to show off at an interview.
I'd say be just over 5 minutes early to your interview - it shows you know how to be on time without being one of those people that's more than 20 minutes early to everything.
Also, never swear/cuss at any point during your time there - but especially during the interview.
And if you are lucky enough to get the position, use this bit of advice for "Casual Friday" appearal.
---Imagine that there will be someone there that Friday that can influence your position there, like from a head office. Wear a shirt/clothes you wouldn't be embarassed to meet him while wearing. ---
Good luck!Leave a comment:

^^^^ I agree and would add, wear a jacket. Dark suit would be better. They want to see how you would look in their "uniform." If you don't have a dark suit, I would def wear a jacket. Conservative.Leave a comment:

Nice slacks, button up shirt, wear a belt, tie, nice shoes, shave, wear deodorant, no cologne or jewelry, a nice portfolio/binder with your resume or related works, brush your teeth, be prepared for anything, don't be too early or too late, know what the business does so you don't look like an idiot.
That pretty much sums it up. Anyone feel free to contribute/edit.Leave a comment:

What should I wear?
If I have an interview at a large brokerage firm (securities, investments), what should I wear? I have a good idea, but I dont want to overdress. The position is only an internship, but I hear that after the internship, almost all get hired on fulltime.
Like I said, I have a good idea, but I dont want to be too overdressed.Tags: None
