We're a spoiled bunch when it comes to snow. I wouldn't trade growing up under Mt. Baker for anything.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

Fuckin' a right, I'm gonna get some! There's rumors that the mountain is going to open 2 weeks ahead of schedule this year. Andrew and I went up last weekend and hiked about halfway up a run, just to get a quick ride down.

        Fuck yes.

I am still kicking myself for not getting out once last year. Looks like this year will make up for it.

Mount Vernon, just off HWY 9. I'm on a lift just over an hour from leaving home. I also have sofa privledges in Acme & Glacier, so on multi-day sessions I am a 1/2 hr from the hill at the worst.

I grew up doing all sorts of outdoor stunts in the greater Skagit area, so it's all sort of my backyard & I know a little of everyone everwhere - I can't count how many favors I owe to all the folks who live between my house & Baker.

I sort of hit a perfect storm in life growing up with a bunch of guys most people would think I'm lying if I cared to drop names - let's just say I wouldn't trade bombing high school & going riding all winter for anything, but I'm 35 & started when I was 14, so the guys I knew were all out of school before the average R3V guy was born. Even at 14, I was the "young kid" of the bunch, and so I got beat on by all my older buddies. It was all good fun.

Baker is my favorite hill I've ever ridden, but I'm probably bias since I basically grew up there. Hope you make good use of living so close to such a great resource.

I hear it's supposed to be a wild winter. Try and make sure you have a 163+ board, if that seems too long get one with deeper sidecut. Personally I love Litigators (174?), but they take getting used to, and I never rotate over 360*. Actually, I never rotate much at all anymore. I'm an old bastard who just likes to drop stumps, chutes & go fast.

Craig Kelly, Kelly Jo, The Donnelly brothers, Loeb brothers, Jason Basarich (I still owe you if you see this),Brian Hollenbeck, Eric Swanson (One of the 1st 4 MBHC), All the Lease brothers. More too, those are just the ones that pop in my head.

                    - Met Jake Burton when he 1st came out to meet Craig, and whether he knew it or not, Jake outfitted about 20 of us kids every year if we could fit Craig's clothes.

                    - I was actually the "little brother" Dan Donnelly, Swanson & Kelly would talk into doing stupid stuff, and they would use me as the crash dummy - if I didn't they'd thump me.

Like I said, I'm old. And most of those names were minor leaguers in snowboarding, but they all were/are my high school friends. Craig really was as good as people talk of too - he's still the smoothest guy I've ever seen on a board. I never could keep up with him, even when he wasn't riding hard & I was. I guess that's why I never got the sponsor ride.

Should be a sweet season. I need a new board... mine is SERIOUSLY too small.

Sweet. I'll be spoiled going to whistler twice this year. Now that is the best place I've ridden. Can't get enough of it. Too bad about the exchange rate right now though.
