    Bomb Ass Screensaver

Electric Sheep is a collaborative abstract artwork run by thousands of people all over the world. When their computers 'sleep', the Electric Sheep comes on and the computers communicate with each other by the internet to share the work of creating morphing abstract animations known as 'sheep'. Anyone watching one of these computers may vote for their favorite animations using the keyboard, which drives a genetic algorithm. Hence the flock evolves to please its global audience. The Electric Sheep are a free and open source service. The HD Gold Sheep have just been released!

    From the site:

"Electric Sheep is a free, open source screen saver run by thousands of people all over the world. It can be installed on any ordinary PC or Mac. When these computers "sleep", the screen saver comes on and the computers communicate with each other by the internet to share the work of creating morphing abstract animations known as "sheep"."

I'd compare it to the likes of the itunes visualizer, except this one doesn't look like shit. And be patient, as it takes a while to communicate to other computers. Well worth the wait.

It's basically a program that automatically displays a bunch of really complex moving 3D fractals as a screensaver. It uses a broadband connection to utilize the computing power of multiple computers. Due to the complexity of the ones I've watched on my own screen, it doesn't seem like bullshit.

Look at the website for screenshots.

The pictures on the site look really cool, as do the sample clips. Ehhh, I may give it a try.

Here's a screenshot I just took. Doesn't do the program justice.

i used to have that about 6 months ago. it kept downloading more and more and eventually my computer couldn't handle it and fried. Its an AWESOME screen saver and looks really cool, but I think i would let it run for a week then maybe turn it off. But it does regenerate and use everybodys computer on the 'network' to generate more images. Its all mathematical algorithms to calculate the screen savers.

you can also judge which ones you like and dont like and it will learn what algorithms not to use to generate only visually pleasing images...
