Just make sure you maintain it well and it wont let you down.

Similar but SRAM is going to be lighter. The Double Tap shift takes a second to get used but most prefer it once you do. The Apex group is geared more for touring and cross use cause it uses a wide range cassette. It'd def be a great bike to start with, no real need to upgrade unless you start to get pretty serious about it. I used to have an old 2.1, with the carbon seat stays. Sold it a few years ago and I regret, fast and comfortable.

Getting myself and my son into it is $$$$$$$$$$.. so I liked that it was lower end prices range w. all the geometry/gear of the $$$ bikes.
Will probably just ride w. him on the mountain roads around PHX, w. the occasional charity ride/race, and maybe some crits, just because I love all racing. :D
I'll keep you guys updated, thanks!

I love the bike I "rebuilt." It's so much fun to ride and I get compliments on my handlebars a lot haha it's kinda weird. I've gotten way more compliments on this pos bike than I did on my mountain bike...same thing with my e30 vs any newer car I have driven. People like old things.

                  Road Bike Shopping

Looking at a new bike, budget is $1500. Bicycle is my primary mode of transportation. I do a lot of city riding, this bike will probably be used for that on nice days and longer distance trips. I don't compete, but it isn't outside the realm of possibility. I do want something fast.

So far I've looked at Treks and my most local bike shop can order me anything from Scott, specifically we talked over the S20. Personally, I've had my eye on a CDale CAAD 10 or maybe a CAAD 8, but haven't seen them yet. I haven't ridden anything yet.

I want something that will be fast and durable, with potential for me to grow into as a rider. What are your opinions on frame brands and components? What about wheels?

My bike plates came in yesterday and I get so much love from bikers (usually doesn't happen when you're behind the wheel). I get people stopping to tell me how they love them. As I was putting them on, some dude almost lost control telling me how cool they were, he kept on turning around and smiling and shouting hah. The plates are all over the place but they're usually on Prius' which don't stand out as much as my e30 ;)

Anyway, thought that was cool and decided to share.

Anyone know anything about a Schwinn 434? it's an 80s' roadbike(period correct right?!), might pick up from CL for $140, pristine. Supposedly they were made by Paramount or some story like that.

Snapped a few more pics of my '10 SE Stout...for the 'for sale' ad.

Picked up an FSA 34T chainring(replacing the original 32T):

Also added a pair of Ritchey True Grip's. At €4, they were worth every penny and more. The original SE grips were crap.
