I am not heavy into riding, nor have I ever been. I run. I'm bored of running and looking to invest in the bike world.

Seeing as how I am a beginner and would like a relatively cheap way to enter this field, what would you recommend if I wanted to be able to ride street with an occasional trek on the dirt?? Any info, pointers or whatever would be appreciated.

Forgot to mention I'm tall, probably 24" mountain bike frame.
Probably a better set of questions to take to the bike shop. They'll be able to give you better answers than the 20 different opinions you'll get here.

Isn't it funny how you never notice how many there are of something around until you have one or your into them?

NEW Velocity Deep V rear wheel! I'm now running two cogs. 17t and 14t with a 44t Messanger Chainring.

How do you like the 44/17?

It's great! Excellent gearing for polo and just cruising around with the risers. Plus in order to run the 14t I got a half link in the chain and with the wheel flopped to the 17t it pulls the wheel up VERY close to the seat tube, so looks sexy too!

haha I know right. Gahh I have spent wayyyy too much money on this thing. I absolutely love it now though. The one on the front looks OK cause the light color kinda blends in, but I am thinking I might take the rear one off.
