T Verdier, Kona makes killer bikes man. I love my old school Sex too. Jamis makes nice hardtails. Scott makes some nice shiz from what i hear. Im kinda a sucker for a Santa Cruz but that might be out of your price range if you want/need a NEW bike.
And for Shimano MTB components, in order of cheapest to most bad ass:
Deore, LX, XT, XTR. A lot of people like xt more than the xtr cause its a little more beefy. Both XT and XTR are bad ass basically top of the line components. Ive had good luck with LX stuff too. Never had a bike with Deore components though.

Hey guys... So i am in need of a new bike. A long story is involved with the mangling of my old one. But needless to say i don't have a useable bike any longer. So I am looking at getting a single speed bike. Not sure if I want to jump to fixed yet. But I typically am just biking to and from my university or around the area. The bikes I have been sort of looking at are:
Motobecane Messenger
Windsor ClockWork
Dawes SST
Im not looking to spend a ton of money. I would like to get by under $300 if possible. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good bike or any comments on the 3 I have listed? Uggggg Theres this Kona 'A' for sale on ebay. Its a single speed full suspension mountain bike. Its SO bad ass. The rear suspension pivots around the bottom bracket to keep the chain tension consistent. FUCK Its such a cool frame. I have a complete mtb with a bad frame so itd be perfect to tool around with. After riding fixed, i kinda see that shifters and gears are kinda over rated so why not bring that to the dirt too...
And andy, one of these days itll get done. Not quite yet though. I want to wait till tax return time so i should have a ton more seat time and ill know if i want to keep doing it for a long time or not.-ChrisComment
