Wtf, is this a ford test? This was a question on my electrical midterm at a NATEF school

"What does a ballast Module do?"
    A. Keeps the vehicle afloat when crossing high water.
    B. Provides extra weight for braking.
    C. Produces the initial charge to get a HID lamp to emit light.
    D. Inflates the airbag

Easily its A... I mean when I cross high water my ballast is always full so I float.

lol nope, straight from the book.

This midterm was a joke in itself though, we just did all the book tests instead of having a real ASE test for it.

                    Generally surrounding water, no?

But yeah, that test is ridiculous with questions like that.
Hemingway said it best. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games.”

Sadly, I would have missed that. To me you DO fill your ballast to keep your sailboat upright in high seas, if it was a ballast you could dump/fill.

I even have self installed HID's in my E30, and it didn't hit me. Glad this wasn't my test.

I don't think on a boat they call it a "module"

I bet you're right, plus I've never heard of one on a sailboat you could dump/pump the water out of. Submarines, obviously - but not a sailboat.

Sadly I'm just old enough that 'modules' aren't a term that automatically makes me clue into a headlight system. If I was even 5 yrs younger it might be different, but sadly being from a coastal state & my age makes me go right to sailboats when I hear the word 'ballast'.

I'll file it away for future knowledge.
