I'm at 2000 grains and average in the high 30's, held level 40 for about five minutes before I got bumped down.

Worse, a guy I hired right out of Princeton in 2000, is scoring between 46&48. He's in B-School now so he gets to use heady words more often though.

I feel dumb.

Post your level after 1000 grains, you need to go that far for it to adjust well to you. Read the faq for how it scores, it's an interesting algorithm.

at 1000 grains im at level 30

My high was 31 about 700 grains in. I had a bad streak and at exactly 1000 grains I'm sitting at level 25. I was able to hold about 28-29 most of the time.

Edit: After going another 600 grains or so I kept my score between 28 and 31 the whole time.
