what irks me about craigslist ads....

A friend went to go see a car on craigslist to find a replacement for me....needless to say the car was completely misadvertised.
The woman said it was accident free, paint was good, straight frame...interior didnt matter cause id switch mine over, same with motor and tranny etc...
The ad claimed it had a rebuilt engine but it was the stocker with sludge everywhere.
He said it looked like Mike Tyson had a bitch fit all over the body panels and the paint was faded....
Since the seller was "being honest" i figure since the ad didnt have pics id take their word and have him check it out.

Is it so hard to post a pic or two of the damn car to begin with? Or do they assume you just need "a running car"?
It should almost be mandatory for them to post a pic, at least show a pic of some stupid rainbow like all the women do in their ads on craigslist...>_>

Last month I was browsing craigslist looking at car ads. I found this one for a 2004 Honda Accord, 25k miles for $5350.

So I emailed the guy. I told him that he must have made a mistake. He forgot the "1" It should have been $15350. I wasn't really interested and that he'll probably get a bazillion emails about it.

Here is the response I got from "Brian"

    Hi,

I'm Brian Tamilson you inquired about my 2004 Honda Accord EX Coupe(VIN#1HGCM82654A013488) with only 25k miles on it.
I apologize for the delay, I'm in the military and now I am in United Kingdom and that's why I couldn't reply in time. If you are still interested in buying it, I'm asking $5,350. It has a clean title, very well maintained, always garage kept, no rust, excellent condition, runs and sounds 100% perfect with no leaks or noises. All power and optional equipments are working perfect.
I have to sell this car as fast as I can because in three weeks I will be in Iraq and I think I'll stay there for a while that's why I'm selling it so cheap. I intend to buy a new car when I'll get back home.If you want to buy the car, I can ship for free within US with one of our military airplanes so you don't have to worry about the distance. If you are interested we can use a third party escrow broker (PPPay https://www.pppay.com/help_centre.php?mo=escrow ) to secure the transaction and to handle this whole process for us. Using a reputable E-Commerce third party escrow company will secure the transaction and you will receive the car before I'll get paid and of course I'm also covered because the funds will be kept safety into the escrow account. This is the best way for me even if I'll have to pay some extra money for their services. I'll cover the broker's fee and like I've explained, the shipping will be free because I can use one of our airplanes here and I don't have to pay anything. Let me know if you are interested.

    Warm regards,

    Brian

Here is the response I sent him...

    Nice try Asshole!!!

How's the weather in Uganda, or Botswana, or whatever shithole you live in?

What did you have for dinner? Bugs and rice?

Sleep good tonight in your cardboard box.

    Warmer Regards,

    Me

      ^ haha thats great . :D

Recently a buddy of mine went to check out a car that was listed as a 86' 318i sedan .
The ad also mentioned "engine/transmission good" .

After my friend talks to the guy and gets directions he checks it out ......only to find that its actually a 6cyl Eta and had suffed an engine fire and was totally inoperable .

I told him that maybe instead of "transmission" the seller intended to write "burned" . :D

Craigslist is totally a gamble, but if you're willing to do the work there are some major steals.

It's a flea market, pure and simple. These are the same people you see crowded in parking lots off the interstate at 7am on a Sunday with Tents and old station wagons full of crap.

craigslist is a crazy mix of nutjobs/cheapskates/creepo's.

i listed a dell 15" lcd monitor on there, 30 mins later i had a guy at the door with cash in hand. weird.

Yeah, this is why I hate looking for cars online. After looking at a few it was the same shit over and over, everyone said "oh its mint condition everything works and is flawless" then I get there and its a bucket of shit.

Now I call up people and after they give me the BS story I sternly tell them just to tell me how it really is and not waste my god damn time and gas going to look at it. I did that with the guy that I got my M from and he gave me the straight shit. Ended up buying the damn thing too.

Yeah it depends on the person. When I sell stuff I just tell them like it is, because I hate it when people bullshit me. I am going to figure out what the hell is wrong with the car, so you might as well tell me everything before I drive to see it.

When I was lookin for a jetta I busted my ass 75 miles to go look at one that was supposedly in great condition. Oh but, interior was trashed and missing a ton of trim, stereo was cobbled in, rust ALL OVER, tires shot, brakes were GONE I could barely stop the car, e-brake was non-functional, steering rack was louder than a fart can, oh yeah it had a fart can too, leaking oil, leaking tranny fluid, and probably coolant.

The "dealer" wanted fucking $3500 for it. I told them I would give them $500 cash for it, I was turned down.

Ended up finding my current jetta at "Bobs auto ranch" most ghetto dealer I have ever seen, just run out of some old house. But the car was flawless when I bought it, everything worked, no leaks, only grip was some cigarette burns on the seat. 116k and I got it for $2700. 300x the car that the other jetta I looked at was.

Craigslist is a shady place for business... It sucks for the honest man, because it seems like everything there is scam or is stolen... I saw 4 2006 7-series wheels go for about $150. Wow....

But I kinda like looking at the used cars and trying to figure out their problems just by reading the ad.
