    My desktop is FVCKED

Any computer experts on here, I need some help.

My desktop computer will not stay logged in for more than 5 mins, and if I try to run any programs in those five minute, it immediately restarts.

Microsoft, according to their stupid ass error reporting bullshit, says that its a "stop error" and that it is caused by either malfunctioning hardware or software. Well the software is out, because unless software changes ove time, I havent installed anything in at least 2months, and this started about 2 weeks ago as a minor inconvenience, just restarting every couple days, I thought whatever Ill just deal with it, and backed up all my files, but like an idiot not my HD.

Anyway, can anyone explain to me what is going on? Microsoft cant, because they suck at life.

    Thanks for any help,
    Devon

Also, I'm in the market for a new computer anyway so any help you can give to me in buying would be awesome. I use it for photoshop and associated programs, internet browsing, word processing, etc... and sometimes will have all the above open and working at the same time.

    Thanks again
    Devon

Sounds like your RAM might be dieing. Usually random shut downs are caused by hardware going bad. Only real way to test is to get know good parts and swap them out.

If you are looking for a new computer, I would just get new and not worry about the old one. Could be a real headache trying to find the problem.

But then again, I'm no computer expert. Someone else chime in with an opinion.

      My guess: power supply dieing.

How old is said computer or the power supply?

      Could be RAM.

could be ram, power, or heat.

Find a free utility to monitor voltages and temp. Your motherboard manufacturer makes one. If those dont change then its likely your ram.

I thought you had to be a lesbian firefighter to own a Mac.

YEEEESSS! I had totally forgot all about that - she/he was big on Macs, wasn't he/she?

Alright, sounds good I will do all that. BUT.... new symptom. I disconnected the bastard from my internet connection, and guess what, it works perfectly fine now.

And I would get a mac, but they seem to be a bit overpriced...

OK, then it's a virus or trojan, go for the following:

                      1) Download Spybot S&D
                      2) Download AVG free antivirus (you can get them both at download.com)

                      3) Since your computer dies when connected, you will not ble able to update those programs before it shuts down, so restart in safe mode with network. (Press f8 repeatedly while the computer is booting (before the windows xp logo appears).

                      4) Once updated run both programs.

That'll get rid of most of your spyware and viruses.

                      good luck.

When I was like 10 I would send people trojans disguised as porn then jack with them. I had one where i could listen through microphones and watch people on their PC cams - open their cr roms and play with their programs and stuff.

go to run and type in msconfig and go to the startup tab and report back what is running.

Or it could still be a hardware problem. My bro had a linksys wifi card bust a nut and jack his southbridge's voltage dropping the computer like a boatanchor.

I got bored with that shit when i was in middle school. Not to mention I now respect people's privacy. It was fun while it lasted.
