    Sony PC question

I have an older VIAO desktop. PIII 1000 with 128MB. I was using this to back up some files and had some old junk on it. I now plan to use it again and need some advice for an upgrade. It is running SLOOOW. I have cleared the history and ran a PC doctor program to clear out any bugs.

I have found memory for 49.00 to bump it up to 1024mb, however it has the old socket 370, does anyone know if there is an adaptor to something more currect. I can not swap the Mother board out since it integrated into the case and screen OR do thing adding the memery will speed things up.

    Thanks,

    Tyler

MAke sure you get the right RAM. Also, look into possibly upgrading it's hdd, it's probably got an older 4200rpm drive ...

1GB of PC133 and find a PCI "SATA" card, add a 500GB SATA hard drive. Use your existing hard drive for the operating system, save the 500GB for files.

        Hardware ready to rock.

Wipe hard drive clean using a "zero bit write" program available from the hard drive manufacturer. Do a fresh install of whatever OS you choose, or if you really only want to store files, look into a NAS (Netweork Attached Storage) based OS, or Linux (ubuntu or something). Personally, for "ease of use" I would do XP Pro...but some of that linux stuff is finally getting easier to build/install.
