    used car shopping.

    I'm helping a lady friend of mine purchase a used car after her ford Taurus died (big surprise) I was finally able to convince her that what a car looks like doesn't matter so she's willing to look at civic's etc.

    what im curious about is anyones experience with mk 3 jettas and golfs. i know that a honda civic would be the best choice, but the car nut in me makes me want to have her buy german car and these are in her price range.

    so my question? will a higher mileage mk3 jetta or golf, if well maintained be a dependable and long lasting car? i know electrical gremlins haunt many VW products, how bad is it on a mk 3? any other helpful advice would be appreciated, hell if you have a sub 5k car for sale in michigan or ohio/indiana i might be willing to look at it.

      Eh, I've worked one one or two, and I'd tell her to get a honda that has not been riced out. The VW's can be good, but that doesn't mean they all are.

              Broken radiators and falling headliners are not becoming. Nice ones are, but its a maintenence thing again. Most people don't want to have to do any maintenence on thier cars. Japs and e30's make this easy.

                      as long as its been taken care of it should be fine. Those motors last forever and are reliable. Also they have dropped in price a LOT..

                          Ive got a 1997 integra, manual, 150k, new tires.

                          Its forest green with tan interior, please come take it. Ive got a few too many cars. For $3500, its a steal.

                              No BMW is as maintenance free or even comes close to a half ass maintained Honda.

                              I mean, you dont even have to change the oil in those rigs and they keep putting along.

                                  this is a chick. if she was halfway decent at driving i'd have her ina e30 stat, but being a chick she:

                                  a. sucks at driving
                                  b. panics in bad situatons involving driving
                                  c. can't drive a manual
