I had to pull my transmission out of my truck, look at what I found.

Well, I thought the transmission in my truck had bit the bullet back on Tuesday. I have been dreading having to take the transmission out, take it and the spare transmission I have over to our rebuild guy and have him rebuild it. Well, I definitely don't have to have it rebuilt. I just have to put ANOTHER clutch in it. I didn't even have 700 miles on this damn thing and it kurploded on me.

I didn't think my little 1984 Nissan carb'd 8-valve,8-spark plugged, 4-cylinder would do that kind of damage to a brand new clutch. Oh well, I'm going to have it defected through WorlPac through my work and have them send me a non-sport clutch. The straps that hold the clutch disc to the sprung hub actually SHEARED apart. The rivets that hold the straps are fine, no distortion, nothing. I have honestly never seen something like this before. Oh, and it's an Exedy clutch.

That's bizarre. Was it installed correctly? I can't imagine how a clutch would fail like that in normal use.

same exact thing happened on my stock clutch shifting over 6k rpm on a 2.93 diff. murdered it. it held together long enough to make it home. then i decided since im replacing the clutch might as well rebuild the whole engine :)

Haha, yea, I'm not worried about it though. It's the DD. I do downshift and rev match a good bit since it is second nature to me since the brakes on it aren't very good, given they have newish pads and rotors. Oh well, time for the new one.

+1 on worlpac, I get parts through them at my buddies garage, they deliver there like 3 times a day, which is great for someone impatient like me. :) Always good quality parts though.

Is Exedy a real brand - I don't know of 'em.

Things like clutches are such a bear to me I buy a premium brand (Sach, etc.) when ever I do clutch work. Also I try & never get to crazy on the disc selection, like buying a ceramic 4 puck or stuff like that.

I only went "performance organic = stg.2" on my disc in my E30 - I did the UUC flywheel & the M5 sprung hub setup.

What blows my brain is when guys cheap out on new bearings when you are in so far as to have a powertrain cracked in half - never got that one.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

Yea, Exedy is a real brand. They supply OEM stuff for Nissan, maybe other makes but I'm not sure. When I put it in there I replaced the rear main, pilot bushing (copper bushing and not a bearing), TO bearing, input shaft seal, output shaft seal, etc.
