Right. I'll take an AMD over an Intel any day of the week.

      hmmm . . .

when it comes to compys, I guess I am like the automatic Honda Accord driver. I want one that starts up and runs every day and need not be flashy.

No, don't work at a gaming company, but I am the Network Manager where I work. I need all that since I run VMWare on top of Linux and do all of my system testing right from my desktop. I used to have rows of old computers sitting in the lab for test builds, now I just run VM's from my desktop.

I have dual NIC's, one is trunked to our production network, the other is trunked to our test network. Since Ubuntu handles VLAN'ing so nicely, I can have multiple network interfaces on each physical NIC.

The gaming style card is so I can run my dual DVI monitors.

Yah... I guess I should have kept my AMD 64 3800+

So far after 2 days of use it really does suck. Everything instantly pops up. I doubled my FPS in every game I play and everything works great and happens fast. I made a bad decision. Damn me...

Gaming on laptop is no fun. I do have 3 of them though

A brand new dual core gateway, older Dell and SUPER old IBM thinkpad to play old DOS games on when the need arises :)

I am going to build myself a desktop machine soon, I just have a laptop for school. Dual centrino + 2GB ram FTW.

              Intel > AMD

Every AMD computer I've ever owned or used has been a steaming pile of shit. You couldn't give anything AMD to me these days.

Everything else in your setup seems fine and dandy though.

Since I deal mostly with server-based hardware, here's my take on AMD vs. Intel.

Intel chips are in the lead with small servers (1U Pizza boxes), due to the Quad core Xeons over AMD's dual core only.

Memory access is much improved with AMD's since they have a seperate memory controller for each channel, thus improving memory read/writes. This is good for DB's and a lot of Linux based systems.

They're each good in their own ways, you just need to match the processor to the application.

AMD is coming out with some pretty cool stuff soon, it's the typical "leap frog" effect.

                  They both work fine.

                  I have a Q6600 2.40Ghz Quad core on my home computer, and a Athlon X2 4800+ 2.4Ghz at Work.

Both I use with VMWare all day, without any issues, and that itself is pretty taxing.

Intel = AMD, just buy whatever one you want.
