That's what i'm looking at now. A 96 318 5speed 2wd ex.cab shortbed. My buddy has been hounding me for my Firebird and i finally told him i'll take his truck plus cash. Being it's a 318 a 360 will be better for it down the road. but in the meen time some LT headers, small cam, M1 intake and a few other goodies will go on it to start. I've had my fair share of Dakota's, last one was a 88 that i put a 92 318 magnum in it with a cam, headers, and intake. Took off the fuel injetion and put a 4bbl on it.

That NV3500 might not like the world for very long behind a mild 360 (which sounds like you might be doing).
Maybe swap a NV4500 and a late-model Hemi into it?

No late model hemis for me. I know the trans won't like what i want to do to a 360. Maybe a T56? I know someone sells a bellhousing for it. Cause i seen a artical on one that they put into a Dakota R/T.

Yeah, a T56 would do it. Just gotta make the little things work, input shaft length and clutch juice hookup. Just little things... :)
Sounds like a fun ride. I have a 00 Dakota with the 4.7, NV3500, and NP231 transfer case. Nice part is, Dodge started putting the 9.25's in the Dakotas with the 4.7's as well. I have a complete Ram 1500 drivetrain in my "little" Dakota.
I beat the snot out of it. I could get 4th gear chirp, but I ended breaking the tranfer cause housing. Probably twisted the drivetrain just a little *too* much. :)
