    Computer issue? Need some help

Bought a Seagate free agent desktop awhile back to store pictures and PDF files, Well now the darn thing after about 2 months of use is crapping out on me. Now while I didn't spend alot on it, I deleted the data from my laptop and don't want to loose it.

It operates but will not show all the files on it? My computer is clean from virus and so on according to my anti virus and all the other crap that slows it down.

Any suggestions? Seagate's been closed for a holiday break so I figured someone here would have an idea. It's an external powered usb simple connection no software involved with it.

    Help please.

Based off of this information it's an external hard drive - correct? Were the files available before - and now they are gone?

yes External, they were available before now I can only access one. I saved it to computter HD then deleted it and another popped up in place. The data is there as it shows 160gb used of 250gb.

Fustrating as this is a simple system.

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers? Or is there no driver to be reinstalled?

There are no drivers that need to be installed it runs right off of Windows. I did goto their web page and they had some drivers and I did install them but it didn't help.

I did use their faq web page as well. I do have some computer smarts but not a computer geek, like geek squadron.

Try a different computer? Are the files hidden?? It's an odd problem.

Update....Rebooted the system and now it works sometimes not all times. So it's not my computer it's the portable unit.

Time to look for another unit. Back to trusted Western Digital.

Use seatools to run a diagnostic on the HD. Could tell you whats wrong. Also it should hold a 5 year warranty so seagate should replace it for free.

I'm surprised that happened, if it indeed is the HD at fault. I never have any issues with seagate. I blow up WDs left and right though.

Funny never had any issues with WD's. It has to be the HD as I went and tryed it on two other systems and zip. But now it's back to working for a short period but it shows all data.

I will be attempting to transfer data to another HD then warranty return this one. Appreciate input thou.
