Quick question... so are there any road courses near Phoenix, AZ? I'm aware of PIR, but it doesn't seem that the road course gets much use?

there are several at firebird raceway. the main one uses the dragstrip as the straighaway. there are 2 other ones to the north ans south of the main, but i am not sure what you need to do to get access to them. maybe contact bondaront driving schools. i have raced on the main one at firebird with the shelby club and nasa (now azra) nice track, but on the backside you need to be aware of possable rocks (small) on the course since it is also used for the pits on friday nights for drag racing. it is cleaned and prepped before use, but you should be aware.

PIR actually gets quite a bit of use from the local racing clubs. There just aren't that many events during the may-oct months because it is just too fucking hot. Speaking of PIR there happens to be an open track day this weekend that I'll be attending.

thanks for the information guys - i'm thinking about moving down there in about 6 months to turn pro and play for a while and I was wondering if there was a decent car scene for organized racing.... one of my mandates for where i move is that there is a road course within a half hour :).

there was also some track called Arizona Raceway Park or something like that is was in way north phx as a private raceway. there was sopme issues with noise and neighbors and i think it might have been shut down.

Yeah, that was AZ Motorsports Park, the neighbors shut it down as they were bothered by the noise even though they are all in the flight path for Luke AFB...go figure. I heard there was talk about another track in Goodyear...but haven't heard anything in the past 6 months or so.
