    home theater gurus check it

I have a 53" Mits 1080i dlp w/2 hdmi inputs, Marantz receiver with hdmi (2 in, 1 out), a Pioneer elite dvd player w/hdmi out, and a ps3 on hdmi also. Everything is using AudioQuest wiring. I use the Marantz as a A/V center. i run the dvd and ps3 into it and the 1 output into the tv. i also use it as a amp for my computer, to listen to music etc.

i havent used the receiver for A/V switching for a couple days, but i was using it to stream music for about 5 hours today. i settled in to kill some cats on call of duty. i turned the receiver on, and the ps3. i was getting something to drink and could here the menu music playing. turned on the tv, no picture..... turned off the ps3 and turned it back on. the mits showed 1080i in the top corner, the game started and it does what it always does change to 720p, but the screen was still black. i could here the game but still couldnt see. i shut off the ps3 and the screen turned blue. which is what it does when its not getting a signal. so i got sound out of the receiver, the tv is getting a signal and changing its resolution like normal, but im getting no picture.

so i think its the ps3 and unhook it, pissed that i was gonna have to start over at 1 on call of duty. i tryed the dvd player...same deal, no pic just sound. i tried to change hdmi cables with the ps3, nothing. tried changing to the 2nd hdmi input on the tv, nothing. did the same thing but with the other cable, nothing. unhooked the svideo cable from my receiver (for on screen setup) and plugged it into the dvd player, i got a picture. ok im lost.

this whole time cable tv works just fine, im watching it as i type. but anything involving the hdmi inputs on the tv and i get nothing, whats going on here? is it possible that the inputs both took a crap at the same time? but why would that leave just the audio but no picture (audio out of the receiver)?

i have a warranty through Magnolia HiFi for 4 years. but im gonna be slightly irritated since ill have to schedule a service call etc.

cliffnotes: unexpectedly both hdmi inputs on a 10month old tv quit working. but svideo, and cable tv still function. tried different cables with no luck.

To determine which is causing the issue, take the receiver out of the chain. Plug your DVD or PS3 directly into the TV and see if you get sound and picture via HDMI. If so it's the receiver or cables causing the issue. If still no picture it's the TV.

And this happens with either source? (ps3 or DVD) and you already said you swapped cables. I first try resetting the TV to the factory defaults (can be done in the menu usually or you can just unplug the TV and let it sit for 15-30min.) The inputs may have been re-assigned somehow so it's not looking for a HDMI input but a component signal.

Try DVD direct to the TV VIA HDMI cables then work your way down via component and then Composite video. If it works on Component or Composite in the menu check how the HDMI is set, some of the Mit TV's you had to select between HDMI/Component.

Let me know happy to help.

ah, yeah its on hdmi. im pretty sure the inputs took a crap, both at the same time.....somehow. got service coming out on tuesday. for now its the dvd player sitting on the floor with svideo going into the tv and a couple spare composite cables that i had laying around for sound. i cant use the ps3 cause it is set to hdmi output only and since i cant see what the menu is doing im stuck till i can get it switched, or the tv working.
