That being said, if you're looking for OE shit, then buy from a company outside of ebay, or like you mentioned, the forums.

I won a set of brand new sports springs for almost $70 off their going rate...

I've won speakers for nearly half the price.. Ebay is a great place to shop, you just have to have the patience.
You're probably right, I just have to wait longer. I admit that I'm soured by my experience but that's why I posted the poll, I'm curious how many people still have faith in that site. I never did fully, and now it's all but gone.

Like I said, my main problem with ebay now, beyond scamming (which includes misrepresentation - a lie is a lie, either way you're not getting what you think), is the fact that there are so many idiots on there. I remember the last thing I got before the clutch kit was a pair of Brooks Beast (the ONLY running/general-training shoe to buy if you're over 200 lbs). I found one auction that was listed like 40 bucks below retail. A few hours before the auction ended, people drove the price up about 10 bucks higher than what you can get them for in a local store. Then I searched again and the same seller had another auction for the exact same shoes which were sitting at 1 dollar above the minimum bid, and I got them for 5 bucks over that. Everyone else was obsessed over winning THAT auction. But of course, if you don't have a backup, then you're shit out of luck and the seller is in the money.

Maybe my mistake is that I go on there for shit that a ton of other people want. And many of them are too dumb to stop (like you said, some people don't know what things are worth - I know you meant it as it applies to sellers undervaluing but it can also go the other way with buyers, paying way over).

I completely understand where you're coming from dude. I would have to agree that for the more popular shit, I look elsewhere because I'm pretty I can find it cheaper on craigslist or the forums like you mentioned earlier. But every now and then, ebay realls pulls through!

About the clutch you bought...You said you purchased a Sachs unit but received a Valeo one?

If thats case...I think you might be wrong about the situation. I just purchased a Sachs Heavy Duty clutch for my M50 swap and the clutch says SACHS on it...but right below it, it says Valeo and some P/N after that.

I wouldn't necessarily say Valeo is cheap shit too...because they plan to release the first cam-less engine, and Fiat might be their guinea pig!

These guys know their stuff man :)

i have a small metal polishing company that i use ebay for. i have been selling on there for several years. as far as car parts go, you really have to search through the crap to find nice parts.

Yeah I still buy some things there. But when I am outbid on a uber rare BMW item I usually cuss like a drunken sailor knowing someone from R3v is probably the new proud owner of that auction ...

lol I bought my car on ebay. Yes, I'm sure that it doesn't always go well, but if you don't buy from the huge distributors, it is generally good. My problem is that I'm in Indy, and e30 parts are a bit scarce. If I can, though, I buy off the forums.

I got burned with a set of euroweaves sent from germany. They came bent and with a 41 offset! The ad stated 25 offset. After months of dealing with paypal/ebay, I got a full refund and kept the wheels. Then sold those (with all known info). So i actually profited of the transaction but I STILL DIDN'T GET MY WHEELS!!!

There is no way i coulda gotten my armrest for $60, my lip for $20, headrest for $40, or my weaves and good tires shipped from ca. for $120. anywhere else unless i just got lucky. Ebay works for me but I can see the pro's and cons. You just never know...you just gotta hope alls gonna be good.

I still buy stuff off ebay once in a while, but I'm picky about feedback and look into stuff before I buy it.
